Parts of Pima East and West loops to Beverly Ridge, Beverly Canyon and Pima West again back to the TH. Definitely getting warmer out there. It's starting to feel like spring already.

Took Guadalupe Ridge to where it goes down to the stone house at the National junction. Walked the dirt road back. Nice full moon tonight.

The traffic on Baseline going west was a nightmare, so I didn't start until 6pm. Got the last spot in the parking lot again. A lot of people out there, some of them very unpleasant. Ran into a lovely family... a father with 4 children probably aged 3-7. Overheard the father say to one of his sons, pointing to a spot just a few feet off the side of the trail... "This is where you took a s--- last time, remember?" I'm surprised this guy wasn't wearing a "Best Dad Ever" t-shirt! The kid responded... "this isn't where I took a s---, it was somewhere else."

20 minutes later I passed them again as I was going down, and 2 of the kids were throwing up on the trail.

This is why I like solitude.

Got the last spot in the parking lot... it's getting busy out there. My phone was nearly dead so I wasn't tracking my hike, but I'm pretty sure this was my best overall time. Jogged most of the way down, and had plenty of daylight left. Should have done a longer hike tonight.

Brought my girlfriend to do a reverse of my hike yesterday. Got to the TH at about 11am and fog was everywhere. It didn't last more than about an hour though. We could actually see the fog roll over and down the mountaintops and dissipate. Pretty cool to see. There were actually a good amount of people on the trails today.

Started from the Dreamy Draw TH at about 4:30pm. It really could not have been a nicer evening out there. Did 1A CCW this time. A couple of nice steep climbs in this direction. Took VOAZ back up to 1A and back, shortening the loop. Didn't want to be out here too long in the dark. Added on part of 220 before getting back to the TH. Almost no one on any of these trails. The quiet and solitude was awesome. Really nice sunset too.

This puts me at 109 miles and 28k AEG for January. Just under my personal best in miles, but exceeded my personal best in AEG by a few thousand. :)

Not sure if this is the right description, but I guess it's close enough. Me and my girlfriend started from the 46th st and Baseline TH this time. The rain had just stopped when we started. Went up "Beverly Ridge" and followed it all the way to Ridgeline, took Ridgeline to Javelina and back to the TH. No rain until the last 5 minutes of the hike. We didn't cross paths with any other hikers at all.

This was a great hike. Much more interesting than the normal Beverly/Javelina loop and you get a little more AEG out of it too. If you're planning on hiking the Beverly/Javelina loop, try this one instead.

Nice figure 8 loop in the rain. I thought about cancelling this hike because of the rain, but figured what the heck. Turned out to be a fun hike with a lot of solitude. It was a constant rain the whole time I was out there. Took Pima West to a couple unmarked trails that got me to Beverly Canyon, then up the north end of the north-south unnamed ridge. Took the ridge all the way south to where it connects to the Ridgeline Trail this time. I should really make a description page for this trail and give it a name... "Beverly Ridge" maybe?

Took it slow going down Ridgeline as it was steep and wet. Took Beverly Canyon back to Pima West. I was loving the rain, so I did the whole Pima East loop back to Pima Wash, and back to the TH. Didn't need a headlamp tonight as the clouds kept it pretty light out.

A little less crowded tonight. Made it up at a good pace. Was expecting the trail to be a little wet from the rain yesterday, but it was bone dry.

I took The Dude's recommendation and tried out 1A today. My first time on 1A, 220, 1C and 1B. Started from the Dreamy Draw TH, which was crazy packed. For some reason I wasn't expecting that. I wasn't exactly sure how to get to 1A from here, but turns out it was fairly easy. My legs were a little tired so this trail turned out to be exactly what I was looking for, and I really enjoyed the whole hike. A good distance with a lot of moderate ups (and a couple steep ones) and downs.

I did the 1A loop CW, hitting a couple unnamed peaks along the way, and added on the Irregular Link/VOAZ loop, which was probably my favorite part of the day. Not a lot of people on 1A at all, and didn't see anyone on 1B or 1C except for a family that seemed a little lost and asked me the shortest way back to the Dreamy Draw TH. The overlook on VOAZ with the bench and the black rock outcroppings was a nice spot.

This is now my favorite loop hike in the Phoenix Mountains area. I'll be back to do all the other trails I haven't done yet soon.

Took my girlfriend here to do a little easier version of the loop I did last weekend. Started from the 32nd st and Lincoln TH. 8A :next: 8B :next: 304 :next: 302 :next: 200 :next: 202. The summit trail was packed as always, but not a whole lot of people on the other trails. Pretty warm out there, but the wind kept it nice.

Mileage and AEG are approximate, as HAZ Tracks stopped recording about a mile into our hike. :( Pima West to Beverly Canyon, up to the unnamed ridge between Beverly Canyon and Javelina trails, back on Beverly Canyon and the dirt road. That unnamed ridge is probably my favorite hike on this end of SM. Nice ups and downs and good views.

Took Pima West to Beverly Canyon, and took one of the unmarked (and crazy steep!) trails up to the unnamed ridge between the Beverly Canyon and Javelina trails. Always love hiking on this ridge. Nobody up there at all tonight.

Pima East and West loops, and Beverly Canyon. I'm glad the days are getting longer again now... it means more hiking time. :)

Really nice out there tonight. Brilliant sunset. There were actually a lot of people heading up in the dark while I was heading down. I'm used to being the last car left in the parking lot recently, but not tonight.

Started from the 32nd st and Lincoln TH. 8A :next: 8B :next: 304 :next: 1A :next: 302 :next: 200 :next: 202. This was a great loop. My first time on a few of these trails. The summit trail was crowded as always, but every other trail was fairly quiet. I really enjoyed every trail I was on today, especially 302. Did 302 CCW. The hardest part of the day was definitely the half mile of 302 before it joins the summit trail. It amazes me how many people completely ignore the no dogs policy on the summit trail.

Went to the end of 200 and doubled back to 202 for a little more mileage and AEG. Didn't see anyone on 200 at all, and it was a cool little trail. Heading back on the 202 I didn't realize the trail had split and I ended up going up several steep switchbacks on an unmarked trail before I realized it wasn't right.

I really enjoyed this hike. I've been neglecting the Phoenix Preserves because I'm not a fan of crowds, but I think I'm going to start coming here more often. I love that you can do a hike of this magnitude, and much more, in the middle of the city and so close to home.

My first time on Sunrise Peak. Went with my girlfriend and one of her friends. It was pretty warm out today. The first mile of the trail was a little dull, but after that this was a nice hike. Nice mild grade until that final steep .25 miles to the peak. The TH was very crowded but not an extreme amount of people on the trail. Views from the peak were awesome, especially of Four Peaks and the Mazatzals.

Next time I hike this I'll probably start from one of the other trailheads closer to the peak to avoid the dull first mile on this one.

This has become my go-to hike for some quick AEG when I'm short on time. Started from the large parking lot on 7th st. The beginning 1/10th mile dirt part of the trail always gets my heart beating. Went up and down twice. The crowds were really out today.

HAZ Tracks finally works on my phone, so this is the first hike I've logged with it. I've done this hike, or a variation of it, many times now. Did the first mile of Guadalupe Ridge, down Beverly Canyon, and the Pima West loop back to the TH.

I've tried a few different apps on my phone to log my hikes, and even when exporting the gpx file into Route Manager and doing the elevation sync and everything, this loop would end up being between 350-450. I always felt like that was under-reported (and was never consistent), and now I'm pretty sure it was. HAZ Tracks gave me 510 AEG, so I'm going with it. :) Glad HAZ Tracks is working for me now, because it's SO much better than the other apps I've been using.
