Met @afrankie for a quick trip to Deem Hills. The humidity reminded me more of Florida! Felt good to REALLY sweat it out. We hit the summit and the little scramble to the true summits and then went back down.

Saw a couple literally dragging their shibe anu dogs to go on the hike. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Cashed in two consecutive Flagstaff trips on consecutive weekends, so this was my fate this morning. That's OK, though...

Let's go Fall... :)

A lot of firsts for me lately, first time to Punkin Center and Tonto Basin and in the same day! :y:

@CannondaleKid and I jeeped it out to Chubb Mountain and Peak 5515. What a beautiful area. Reminded me more of Wyoming or Montana in places than Arizona. We basically just assaulted Chubb Mtn. directly as there was no trail and it was better to just go straight up the mountain. It was in that range of being steep but not OVERLY steep. After a half mile of Phoenix to elevation huffing and puffing I was fine. The summit is nothing special but there is a register, which we signed.

While down climbing Chubb, I happened to spot a seemingly new wildfire over in the Asbestos Point area (appropriate). We called it in to USFS and went on about our way. Peak 5515 was a much easier climb than Chubb.

On the way out we took a peek at Red Blanket Mtn. (BEAUTIFUL peak, btw.) but given the heat and the hour of the day we just booked it on out.

Mark took me back on the Apache Trail. O M G is that beautiful. I only got scared, once. :scared:

A good couple of 5K + Peaks in the bag...

OK, we just had to...

Cool little loose rock all sliding little hill. We assaulted Haystack on our way back from Chubb and 5515. I joked that probably 1/2 of Punkin Center was conceived there. Mark chuckled.

I met up with my previous online friend Dave of @wildernessdave fame and off we went to Payson. My first actual trip to Payson either to hike or just to visit Payson. Gosh I love Rim Country. I also got my first good look of the backside of the Mazatzals along 87 as previously I had only been to Ord. Beautiful country.

We just sort of made our way, stopping to take pics, or just generally goof off, which was kind of nice as some of you know I'm pretty meticulous about not dilly dallying but it was good to just kind of relax.

I thoroughly enjoyed my two trips to Rim Country and definitely plan to go back and explore more! Horton Creek has some flow! :y:

So I went up to Elden solo... :y:

The first mile I sort of had that Phx to Flag, wow this air is thin feeling but quickly acclimated. This is a good urban mountain/hike. I really never got tired but it's just hard enough to be meaningful. It was probably gusting 30-50 mph at the summit. Thought about hiking over to TV Hill but as its not a Lists of John summit, I passed.

Capped off the trip with a visit to Peace Surplus and Beaver St. Brewery for a burger and a Flagstaff IPA.

About to have a Four Peaks Peach Ale.

Also, if I offended anyone last night it wasn't my intent. I'd had a terrible day and just went off the rails... Better today! Trail time and a big mountain.

Out before sunrise to beat the heat. Even at 5:30 - 6:20 AM it was probably over 90°. I saw enough western cottontail rabbits to feed General Crook's army for a week or two. Literally probably saw over a hundred in 3.5 miles!

In order to beat the heat I went north to the Prescott National Forest. Even at 6:30 AM at 7500 ft. it was already 82 degrees. I parked at Potato Patch and up the hill I started. I was already stoked because I saw about 10 pronghorns on 89A just before the climb into Prescott NF.

The only bad thing about this trail is that because of the historical nature of what Woodchute was used for, there is very little shade compared to other areas of Prescott NF. The entire mountain was pretty much denuded of any timber to run the Jerome mines.

The hike itself is pretty good. Its interesting that your only scenery or views are about in the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the hike. I left the trail to hit the Woodchute Summit and you couldn't see more than 5 feet, LOL. Back down I went but I did do some off trail down to check out all the tanks in the area. They're all dry except for Powerline Tank near the 2nd TH.

At about 10:00 when I finished at 7500 ft. it was already 91. Whew.

Finished off the trip with a Rock Springs Cafe lunch.

All in all a great morning hike. A Wilderness area highpoint and another mountain over 7K.

So who hikes 19.2 miles with a sore back? This guy... Actually felt better today. I bought some good inserts for my Moabs and it seemed to help. Slept on my side last night with a pillow between my knees. Seemed to help too.

About the hike... I've been daydreaming about the Rim and Cabin Loop for a while. With plenty of free time I made my way up.

This will perhaps be my first and only Cabin Loop since I suffer from IVTS (Inferior Vehicle Trail Syndrome). Some of you would take a used Yugo to Crown King, but not me... Rim Rd in a Nissan Maxima was a bit much, LOL. Ruts, pits, potholes.

The first 2/3 of Fred Haught is really really nice. Loved it. The last third was OK. I had thought about turning around at Pinchot Cabin to save 5-6 miles but I had the scene from Shawshank Redemption in my head where Andy asks Red "If you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further..."

Houston Brothers is much more up and down than Fred Haught but not nearly as scenic. Still a great trail. The last few miles on the Rim Rd were a slog but, hey you gotta get back to the car!

Overall the Rim is a beautiful area. I already miss it...

Hiked from my house to the grand opening of the new Desert Hills Trailhead in the Sonoran Preserve North. This is the TH at the Carefree Hwy end of the SPN. Was good to see a crowd of non-hikers out getting free swag and having to be given water and playing awesome music on trail through external speakers!

My first trip to Rimrock, AZ. It's amazing how much fun you can have on these little micro adventures. After we left the Well, we drove about 25 miles on 260E toward Strawberry. I am REALLY looking forward to exploring this region. We stopped off at the Clear Creek Campground area to stick our feet in the water and just listen to the water babble.

In my goal to wring out as much AEG as I could out of the intersection of Pioneer Rd. and I-17 I went up the little hill to this peak and explored as much as I could up there. This is the Tramonto version of the mountain that all the locals find attainable. It's fairly steep for a bout 250 yards at least!

You win some, you lose some. @CannondaleKid and I went out to Steamboat Mountain near Kearny today to check out Steamboat Mountain. We really didn't have any approach route beta on the best approach. As such with a squall line moving into the area, we came up a bit short. We did see a nice mine shaft that we peered into.

After we left Steamboat Mtn and the Mescal Mountain OHV area, @CannondaleKid suggested a couple 'easy' peaks. This was the first of the two that we chose. All off-trail, bushwhacking and loose scree!

Still it was a fun little summit. We saw evidence of a potential mountain lion up top with some scat and some bedding area.

Then it was on to the next adventure across AZ 177.

For our final summit of the day, we crossed AZ 177. This hike/climb goes up to the Lime Benchmark, with a cadastral marker indicating LIME.

A nice hike and climb with 2-3 false summits. The views are AWESOME up there.
