I did a little out and back on the Sunrise Trail and over a ways on the Andrews-Kinsey Trail. The wind was really blowing on the fountain Hills side and I started to get a little chilly so I turned back before the high point. It was 55 degrees when I started at 9:00 and 63 degrees when I finished. The hike came in at 7.0 miles in 2 hours and 40 minutes with 1,500 feet of AEG.

I did a loop of the Pyramid, Bursera, National, and Lost Ranch Ruins trails. When coming down Lost Ranch Ruins Trail, I took that secondary connector trail back down to the Bursera Trail and back to the trailhead. This secondary trail was well defined and had no real exposure on it. It got steep and slippery in a few spots, but if you fell you would just have to pick which cactus you slid into. It was 55 degrees when I started and 64 when I finished on a cloudy day. The loop came in at 6.9 miles with 1,375 feet of AEG in 3 hours and 5 minutes.

I just wanted to get a quick loop in before the Purdue/Auburn game this morning. Go Boilers!!! It was a chilly 43 degrees when I started at 8:45 and 48 degrees when I finished. Along the way I ran into an old hiking bud, Naomi, who was out with her group. Then I ran into a gentlemen wearing an Auburn University sweatshirt. Small world. I told him to "Boiler Up", then shook his hand and wished him luck. The loop came in at 3.5 miles with 590 feet of AEG in an hour and 25 minutes.

I nice Christmas day loop of the Pyramid, Ruins, National and Pyramid Trails. I'd been out of town on vacation for a while but I think I was experiencing side effects from some new meds as I felt kind of punky and light headed the entire day. It was 51 degrees when I started. The loop came in at 7.8 miles with 1,750 feet of AEG in 3 hours and 55 minutes.

I took lost Dog over to the Quartz Trail and up that about a mile to where it starts following the wash. The out and back came in at 6.9 miles in 2 hours and 35 minutes with 770 feet of AEG.

I made a loop of the Go John and Overton Trails. I noticed just north of the intersection of the go John and Maricopa trails that a new road has just gone in. It must be in advance of some new housing development. Bummer. I thought that was all State Land between CCRP and the Spur Cross area. It was a cloudy 59 degrees when I started at 9:15 and 64 when I finished. The loop was 6.4 miles in 2.25 hours with 900 feet of AEG.

I pushed off at 8:00 with the temperature a cool 48 degrees with no wind. A beautiful day with great views and no pollution in skies. I went up Ranger and over to Goat Hill then around on the National and Pyramid trails to the top of Pyramid overlooking the 'Tuke. I came back on the Kiwanis trail and cut across back to my car at the Ranger Trailhead. It was 64 degrees when I finished. 6.3 miles in 2 hours and 40 minutes with 1,300 feet of AEG.

Just an out and back up to Bell pass. i started at 9:30 and the temperature was 58 degrees. But the wind was blowing pretty hard out of the east so I was glad I dept my fleece on. It took me 90 minutes to get to the pass and 80 minutes to get down. It was a virtual tail wind coming back! It was a cloudy day so the temperature was only 64 degrees when I finished. 7.25 miles in 2 hours and 50 minutes with 1,500 feet of AEG.

I pushed off from the Via Linda & 45th Street trailhead at 8:30 with the temperature a cool 56 degrees and it was 74 degrees when I finished. I made this a counter clockwise loop hiking up through the neighborhood to the former forest service road up to the Fountain Hills trailhead. The last time I was up this way was roughly 3 years ago and oh how things have changed. After the initial Scottsdale neighborhood after the gate there is another new neighborhood going in on the Fountain Hills side. Toll Brothers are constructing an upscale tract in there. And the road is paved now almost all the way to the fountain Hills Trailhead. The last half is dirt but it has been graded and is ready for paving. So in short, I enjoyed a 2.25 mile road hike for the first 40 minutes. growl. But things quickly improved once I got on the Western Trail to the Andrews-Kinsey Trail and back to the Sunrise Trail. The entire loop came in at 7.0 miles in 2.75 hours with 1,400 feet of AEG. I saw virtually no people until my return on the Sunrise Trail which was nice.

I did this loop hike heading out on Bursera all the way to the new subdivision and then back on the Gila Trail to the neighborhood access on 17th Avenue. It was a nice cool day with a temperature of 68 degrees when I pushed off at 8:00 am and just 77 when I finished. They are making lots of progress on the subdivision along with the 202. The hike came in at 5.7 miles in 2 1/2 hours with 1,180 feet of AEG.

This was a beautiful day for a hike. The temperature was 66 degrees when I pushed off from the trailhead at 8:30 after an hour and 35 minute drive from South Scottsdale. I only encountered a half dozen people on the trail the entire time and the temperature was just 75 degrees when I finished. Besides being a fantastic memorial to some brave men, this hike has awesome views and provides a good workout. Needless to say, the final fatality site is pretty moving. I would have hated to have been in their shoes. The ranch was still a good distance away and there was no way they were escaping back up that bowl with 50 pound packs on their backs when they were forced to deploy. Tragic. I had the round trip hike at 6.8 miles with 1,725 feet of AEG in 3 hours and 40 minutes. I was pretty winded today as it took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach the site and just 90 minutes to get back. I was reading the memorial plaques on the way up but those didn't take that long. It's a good climb.
