I started this out and back hike at the Ross Dam Trailhead and took it down to and across the dam to the Big Beaver Trail. I then went out on this around the bend and north until I hit my turnaround point roughly .8 miles past the turn off for the Pierce Mountain Trail. It was 10.0 miles in 3 ours and 50 minutes with 1,400 feet of AEG.
I did this solos hike on St. John in the US Virgin Islands. While a shorter hike it was more exposed to the sun and very warm. the views from the top of Caneel Hill were beautiful and they have a viewing platform so as to enhance the experience. The climb down the saddle and then up another 300 feet to the top of Margaret Hill kicked my butt. (Too much rum the night before- sigh.) 2.9 miles in 2 hours with 1,050 feet of AEG.
I did this solo hike on St. John in the US Virgin Islands. I made a side trip over to the America Hill ruins which had an impressive view of Maho Bay. This hike was pretty well protected by trees but a little rocky in places where it crossed the drainages. They call drainages "guts" down there. 3.0 miles in 1 hour and 55 minutes with 1,050 feet of AEG.
This hike was on the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. Carolyn and I did this hike as a point-to-point going down the Reef Bay Trail and coming up the L' Esperance Trail. Simply awesome views! It was somewhat exposed on the climb back up to Highway 10 which made it a rather warm climb. We ten hitch hiked the 1.5 miles back to our car. We got picked up by the 2nd car that came along as folks are pretty friendly and hitch hiking is quite common. 5.7 miles in 2 hours and 55 minutes with 1,200 feet of AEG.
