Lovely day to mtn bike the trails in Ft Tuthill (including the Bridge and Highland trails) and out to Rogers Lake, which really is a legit lake right now after the wet winter. Trails are easy to moderate riding, often rocky but no white knuckle drops or climbs.

Jumped in this last minute as it ended up working with my schedule

nice congenial and chill crowd.

running at that elevation and the heat towards the end definitely beat me up some, but overall i am pretty happy with my performance.

great event and fun course. fort tuthill is a pretty cool place! Jared Hazen was manning one of the aid stations. he is a world class ultra trail runner. so that was pretty cool too

Took the advice of Fricknaley, and followed this to Shreve's Saddle, past the end of Soldier's Trail. Great views, and had the trail to myself until the junction right past the end of the trail. Encountered NUMEROUS groups while heading to the saddle, probably coming from the various campgrounds in the area.

Encountered some litter :( Cigarette butts, a wrapper, and an empty water bottle. :o

No shade on this trail, probably won't do it again until fall. No water running in the canyon at this point.

Stopped at Fort Tuthill on my way home from Colorado for a trail run. I started with the Soldier Loop and then went onto the FUTS trail for another 6 miles.

So in order to work up a good appetite for turkey day I decided to hike this trail again. However, I did take a shortcut and only hiked 3 of the 6 miles. It was perfect. Nice and cool. There was even snow on the ground and most of the mud was frozen, which made for good hiking. I was ready to eat by the time I got done.

After taking our kids to Flagstaff extreme last month, I wanted to go back and rent a mountain bike and cruise the area. $20 for a new Kona 20" rental, not bad. The blue grass festival was going on too, so we rode over and listened to some great "free" music at the amphitheater.

Did a pace run after we finished the extreme course. Then went to Pita Jungle for lunch. What an awesome day!

The Sinclair Trail (as part of the FUTS) offered the perfect opportunity for me to complete my long run, almost entirely on trails through South Flagstaff. I ran around campus, past the Arizona Trail, and down to Fort Tuthill on the incredibly smooth and surprisingly scenic urban path.

This trail was a nice easy one, that I started about 10:30 in the morning. I was a little warm, but did get quite hot by the end of the hike. Saw several people hiking and biking.

Did Soldiers Trail this morning. The best place to start this trail is immediately after you enter the more northern entrance to the fairground. (There are two entrances right after you get off the I-17. The one that is a little further north is the one I am referring to). As soon you go past 2 stone pillars there is a large gravel lot just to the right. There is a large info board to the west of the lot. The trail is on the east side of this parking lot.

The trail is easy to follow and gave me a nice opportunity to jog in the pines. Very mild elevation change made this possible. Trail was nice, but not very remote. Pretty much throughout I was aware of the sounds of the freeway in the distance, (though I couldn't see it). I could see the fairgrounds and assortment of buildings for about half the hike. Having said that, I did see deer during my run.

There is at least one other trail out there, but I am unsure how it interacts with Soldiers Trail.

Sidelight: The reason I was in Flagstaff this weekend was because we were celebrating my daughter's 16th birthday :D . And to do that we took her to Flagstaff Extreme Adventures. Ironically, this is located in the EXACT same area as Soldiers Trail. Two hours after jogging this trail I was back, and in the trees with my family doing things I never thought I would be doing two feet off the ground, let alone 40 feet off the ground. We all had a fantastic time and I couldn't be prouder at how well they all did. The hike was nice, but the experience at FEA was one I'll never forget.

Ran this for the Machine Solutions Run for CHC. Great day, just cool enough to make running through the woods a blast! Lots of wildflowers on the last 2 miles too, one meadow full of firecracker penstemon.

Kiddo and the dog camped at Ft. Tuthill. Wasn't planned, but worked out to be a great Fathers Day. Lots of pines for this desert dweller to enjoy :D

The weather was perfect for this new run. The coarse felt like a perfect combination of steep grades and easy going terrain. Nothing about this trail was boring. I especially liked that fact that the toughest part of the trail is over within the first two miles.
