The Cruickshank Trail is one of the premier trails in the Big Sur area because of its floral diversity, elevation gain and extremely rare Santa Lucia firs. Most of the other people I saw were backpackers going counterclockwise from Salmon Creek, but I did talk to two people from the Ventana Wilderness Alliance. The VWA is a truly wonderful organization that provides a lot of manpower to keep trails in the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness areas safe and enjoyable.

I had had my eye on this trail for a long time, and am extremely pleased to have knocked it out. The Big Sur area fascinates me for so many reasons, and I plan on visiting again.

See the hike description for more.
