I didn't want to try too much because I banged my knee playing basketball, but I should've done a lot more miles. I also decided to risk it and try for 3 hours at the Leo Cronin Fish Viewing Area parking lot where there is a 60-minute limit, but I managed to luck out. Another 5 miles might've been pushing it, and I wouldn't have enjoyed the hike while thinking "I wonder if there's a chalk mark on my tire right now?"; "Do I already have a ticket so I'd might as well do a big one?"; "Is the ticket for $20 or $320?" "Will they tow my car :scared: ?" My knee was feeling great, but you get the picture.
Anyways, this is a cool area. Lots of trees, a few views and interesting serpentine geology. There was surprisingly a nice amount of spring wildflowers, but mostly on bushes. This ridge has second growth redwoods on north facing slopes and soft chaparral on the south with Douglas firs of all sizes on top. I noticed that the north slopes are very steep while the south slopes were more gradual. Perhaps the north slopes with the second growth redwoods are so steep because they lost a lot of earth after being logged who knows when?
