A visit to the Torrey Pines State Reserve.
Started at the North Parking Lot and walked up to the Visitor Center, the road up was closed to vehicles when we arrived. From the Visitor Center headed down the Beach Trail, over to Razor Point, then to Yucca Point and then back onto the Beach Trail. The Beach Trail takes you to the beach and you can walk back to the North Parking Lot.

Arriving late on a Saturday morning, the sun was beaming and the parking lot was full for my carfull. But hey, that sounds like 7am at Camelback, so I'll take it for it being 11:) It had been about 15 years since I was here last, as a kid, so I was really interested in seeing how the memories shaped by my young eyes compared with today. The vegetation was diverse and well marked, although they're having an issue with an invasive beetle attacking the pines so beetle traps (looked like hanging birde feeders were present throughout).

We hiked upwards from the beach and checked out the different trails and vistas before eventually descending down the Beach Trail and rouding it out on the shoreline. Turns out I couldn't find one particularly tricky trail I remember as a kid - it was a trail that hugged a blind corner on one side and a cliff on the other - or it just wasn't as scary as I imagined it. I refuse to accept the latter, as I didn't go all the way to the beach on all the trails!. One thing remained, it's still beautiful.

Took a 4 day weekend in San Diego to go see the Steelers play on MNF. We drove out on Saturday, so on Sunday I planned to go up to Torrey Pines to check out those trails. My wife wanted to go see the San Diego Symphony, so she did that with the kids while I took a ride up north to the beach preserve.

It was a little tricky to find where to go, but I finally did. You enter down towards the beach, but you take the road up to the upper parking lot, which was pretty empty. The main trails from that lot, the Beach Trail and Razor Point Trail, were packed, especially with it being a Sunday. I hiked out to Razor Point, then down to the beach, then up the Broken Hill south fork trail, looped on the road and went back down the Broken Hill north fork trail, then back up the Beach Trail to the TH. Then I walked over and did the Parry Grove loop and the High Point overlook trail. I saw one other Steeler fan, who was obviously also in for the game. Nice views up and down the coast, and nice to walk along the shoreline getting my boots wet from the ocean, quite the contrast from the Sonoran Desert sand.

Met up with the family later, then went to Pacific Beach to meet up with some friends at the Steeler bar that was having a big event. My wife and kids let me go there while they hit the beach. Once they came back to get me, one of the Steeler staff doing the event let my kids wear the Super Bowl 43 ring while we took the obligatory pics. :y: Super Cool 8)

Ended the weekend with an EPIC win on Monday Night Football. :y:

Went out to Torrey Pines after the marathon to check out the ocean views. Pretty neat preserve. I spent some time talking to the volunteers about a number of things like the trees dying off, people falling off cliffs and rattlesnake encounters. They had some really funny stories!

After a sweet afternoon of boogie boarding, laying on the beach, and walking along it at North Torrey Pines beach, we enjoyed the amazing sun slowly setting thru the clouds up on these ocean bluffs by walking the trail down to Yucca Point, over to Razor Point, and slowing back up to the parking lot while soaking in the coastal breeze, sounds of waves crashing, and lovely coastal views. :D
