spent a couple days in sedona with my mom, my brother and his girlfriend
we wanted to take my mom up doe mountain, but she wasn't comfortable with the footing on some of the rocky switchbacks
went over to thunder mountain trailhead and did a loop around little sugarloaf and chimney rock
added the summit trail to little sugarloaf, then caught up with the family
nice loop in a beautiful setting
drove the red rock loop road, with a stop at crescent ranch/red rock crossing
had lunch at the pumphouse and dinner at pisa lisa - both were excellent choices
We did this hike on a sunny but very windy day. The area was actually in a high wind warning. The views were great but the wind was terrible. We started at the Sugarloaf trail head, not the Thunder mountain trail head. You take Coffee Pot Drive to Sanborn, then West to Little Elf drive and North a few blocks to the trail head parking. Wonderful little hike. Good for anyone. My GPS showed a 365 foot elevation gain. Not bad at all!
average hiking speed 1.37 mph
