We did Das Boot with the Subway exit, definitely a sweet canyon!

This is the slightly long, wetter, and more challenging upper start to the traditional Subway hike in Zion. :GB: The hike in starts off just like the Subway hike but it takes a little bit more route finding skills and debating to find the right way for Das Boot, but we made it in the correct drop-in point without much issue. The canyon quickly narrows up and get plenty wet, dark, tight, and cold. : rambo : We were plenty warned about a dead elf at the first rappel and all too soon we could smell that disgusting beast rotting away up ahead. :yuck: But we did our best to ignore the nasty smell and do that first short rappel. Loads more pools & narrows to go thru with an occasional short rappel & awkward down climb & a couple swimmers and all too soon were at that final 30ft rappel. Some places rate this canyon as a 4B but we didn't think this canyon deserved that higher rating or we've just slowly getting better at this... ;)

We lucked out with some walk-in permits for Subway the day before, so we proceeded to finish via this classic barely technical canyon. Some easy creek hiking and we hit that boulder section where I down climb that class 3/4 face down a huge boulder while the guys did a short rappel on the right side of it. This was followed not too shortly by those short swimmers, some more easy creek walking, and another larger swimmer in a tight section of the canyon that starts with a handline/easy rappel. Soon afterwards the canyon narrows up and the walls start soaring into the sky where we down climbed a branch at keyhole holes, soaked into the upper Subway past that photogenic Subway Log, traversed above that 20ft falls and rappeled into the main Subway where we enjoyed a water slide, showered under the falls and stripped down the gear. :D That Subway is the best part of the whole canyon, but afterwards if followed by some sweet red falls/cascades but that soon replaced with 4 miles of kinna boring hiking alongside the creek to that steep & quick exit trail back to the lower TH.

Combined with Subway from the top. The elk is not too smelly yet and Das Boot was nice and cold for being such a hot summer day. The Subway was fantastic! Such an amazing display of geology and water. Everyone should see this at least once in their lifetimes.
