I wanted an easy hike that wasn't too far away, but not Shell Ridge!

A little overnight splash of rain washed away my plan to hike the Pine Mountain Loop in Marin because it would've included a 4-mile stretch of pure mud so I settled on Nimitz Way because it's largely paved. Some muddy stretches, but nothing crazy.

The day started out cloudy with misting going on across Wildcat Canyon, but ended up being gorgeous. I hiked for a bit with a nice couple I met on Wildcat Peak. Paved Nimitz Way all the way past the Nike missile site to Mezue Trail which I took down to Wildcat Creek Trail. Unfortunately I started immediately coming back uphill on the Havey Canyon Trail which had a few stretches of mud. Nothing too crazy, but definitely some hairy stretches. Then I went up to the actual Nike missile site because I had to hit that high point. Returned on the Nimitz Trail with its usual ridiculous afternoon views.

Gorgeous day to enjoy the Berkeley Hills. I bought a book about David Brower at the Tilden visitor center.

Gorgeous weather except for the haze over most of the Bay Area. I couldn't tell if it was smog, smoke from fireplaces or harmless water vapor. There hasn't been any wind over the last week so I'm betting on smog.
Started from Inspiration Point, took Meadow Canyon to Lone Oak then Pine Tree to Laurel Canyon up to Wildcat Peak. Took Wildcat Peak Trail back down to Wildcat Gorge Trail then up Conlon to Nimitz Way. Nimitz Way has apparently been recently repaved, and there were a ton of people the rest of the way back to the trail head.

Light for the Bay Area which equates to almost-nonexistent for most of the rest of the country.

Did this from Inspiration Point. Temps were in the low 70s when I started, and around 80 in the sun at the finish. Not too shabby.

Great views of snow-blanketed Mount Diablo. Cold and windy.

Another beautiful day by the bay. There were lots of people and an amazing number of off-leash dogs on trails where dogs are prohibited. There was the usual large number of raptors, and I saw a lot of turkeys. I'm pretty beat after 2 good hikes in 2 days, but well worth it. Wildflowers are starting to poke up just a bit.
