Trail is in okay shape, although some sections would not be great for biking.
Continues south past Hidden Falls Park now, but not sure how far.

Hot, hot, hot.
Enjoyed lunch at one of the shaded benches at Hidden Falls park. There is now a cold drinking fountain at this park, making the trail a good choice for trail running.
Only saw a couple ground squirrels - nothing else out in the oppressive heat.

Starting the new year off as best I can in NV. Only 3 more months until I leave Vegas :y:

Been sick for the past week, had to get out. This is my go-to. Quick, easy, and allows me time to sit by the pool in the afternoon. It is starting to get hot... going to have to head North for my hikes soon. Hidden Forest Cabin might be next on my Southern Nevada list. :)

Such a beautiful day, perfect temperature, and no jacket needed on todays hike! I've been studying all weekend and needed to get outside. I wanted to go to Red Rocks, but I knew that would take the majority of my day. Instead, I settled for this trial because it is less than 5 minutes from my house and would allow me to get back to the books quickly. I'm always pleasantly surprised with how much even a small hike can relax me. I'm feeling motivated and ready to take on finals this week. BRING IT neuro anatomy, I ain't scared : rambo : !

The weather is finally starting to cool down which means I can FINALLY start hiking in the city. This trail is really a bike trail but I saw several others hiking it too. I started from the Shaded Canyon Trailhead which is briefly paved, then turns into dirt. The recent rains look like they have damaged the trail, but it gets better as you go. I would classify this as an easy to moderate hike (I only say moderate because you have to watch your step in a few areas due to the water damage on the trail). But I won't lie, I worked up a little sweat on this trail! There are a good amount of switchbacks too. Mountain biking on this trail might be another story, unfortunately I don't know anything about mountain biking so check out the other trip logs for biking info. I was bummed that most of the hike is near large power lines, but what can you expect in the city... The trail does have some good views of the city and the strip though. I've been dying to see some desert critters out here and I thought this would be the perfect area (plenty of rocks to hide under) so I took several little detours to search but nobody wanted to come out and play! I can see myself doing this hike plenty more times. It is not the most scenic of hikes, but it is a great little escape from the city.

Well, this trail was much easier the second time around - mostly because I was hiking (OK, more like jogging) instead of on my bike.

I broke the attachment on my seat post, and then my husband's bike tool trying to fix it, within the first few hundred meters
So I quickly ran my bike back to the van, and jogged the trail behind my husband on his bike. This worked out fine, since I couldn't go as fast downhill, but gained on him on the uphill.

Nice day and we discovered they are building a park at the other end of the trail. We better get in all the runs we can before the park opens and everyone finds out about this trail. As it was, even with the perfect weather and being basically in town, we saw only 1 runner and 2 hikers.

This bike ride really kicked my bum! A stark realization of how out of biking shape I truly am. If you're hiking and it's steep, you can hike slower; but on the bike, you have to maintain a certain speed, or you stop/fall.
I struggled up the steep switchbacks with several stops to catch my breath. At the top, wonderful views, if you like looking out on the valley. We turned around at the top and bombed back down the switchbacks.

The trail does go back down the other side, so I'll have to put in the full mileage once I finish this out.
Well, I certainly have a goal in mind now!
