Radmila wanted to get everyone out for a hike since they're starting to go stir crazy from sitting at home all the time. The weather forecast was cooler than it's been, so it seemed like a nice opportunity to get a short early morning hike in. I always prefer to do a hike rather than go jogging on Sunday mornings, so I was up for it.

We started from the main trailhead staging area and headed southeast on the Blevins Trail. We continued eastbound for a bit on the Meridian Trail, then south on the Spillway, west on the Levee, north and west on the Blevins, and then north on the Noso Trail back to the car to complete the loop. No clouds like I had yesterday to keep things cooler than they really were, but there were some breezes here and there to make it bearable. Only did 4.5 miles, but that was all they could take in this weather without getting miserable, so no need to push it.

Just my weekly mountain bike ride. The entire eastern end of the park had been taken over by bees. They were bouncing off my face and arms and I was not pleased so I cut that far corner out of my ride.

After hiking over 10 miles and nearly 3000 feet the day before, I wasn't really sore at all. My legs must be in good hiking shape. I decided to take another hike over at Usery Park and took Dmitri again. I wanted to completely hike the Channel Trail and a few other spur trails there. We got down to the area and I ended up finding an unmapped trail heading north. I decided to take that, and then hiked the Noso Trail back down to the Channel Trail. We didn't much farther before I found another unmapped trail going north again. We took that, then headed over to the Ruidoso Trail. On that trail, I found yet a 3rd unmapped trail that headed to the west. I decided against that and kept going on the Ruidoso, on to the County Line, Meridian, and Blevins Trails back to the trailhead. Finished up with 9.7 miles total, which is an other record for Dmitri. He was getting pretty sore the last mile and a half, but pushed through very well.

It was very cloudy to start, but got a little sunny by the end. The first 2 hours, we hardly saw anyone, the last hour and a half, the crowds were out. Finished up before 11am, nice morning on the trails.

On Friday we hiked the 3108 Ridgeline so to be fair, yesterday we hiked the neighboring Pass Mountain Ridgeline. Started from the Crismon gate which added a couple miles and allowed us to check out some new to us park trails. On this hike we dropped off the ridgeline to the west following the clearly marked trail which was a first for me. Although a little loose, I prefer this exit route.

A nice, easy run through the lower section of Usery with lots of wildlife activity. I saw a desert tortoise on Blevins, a diamondback on Spillway and two javelinas just outside the park along Crimson Road.

I planned a family hike for this Sunday, but my wife was kind of sick, so I took the kids out in the Sunday morning drizzle. A bribe of MOD Pizza for lunch afterwards was enough to quell any complaints. Dmitri was still tired for the first mile and a half, but after that he started talking and was in a better mood. We started off with rain gear, but after about 3 miles we shed all of it. The rain began to pick up the last mile, but not enough that we really got wet at all.

From the trailhead/staging area we took the southern part of the Pass Mt. trail out to the Meridian TH. I found a couple other trails there that head to the north. the one trail that's closer to the deep wash also heads south and appears to parallel the Pass Mt. Trail for a little while.

After that, we headed back on the Pass Mt. Trail, then did a 3 mile loop of the Cat Peaks/Blevins/Spillway/Levee/Noso Trails. Actually saw quite a few other hikers while we were out. We made much better time on the Usery Park trails than on the Pass Mt. Trail with less rocks to walk over and around.

The low hanging clouds over Pass Mt. made for some interesting and unusual scenery than what we normally see here. Trails were pretty muddy with lot of puddles. Nice to get out in the weather for the morning.

Drove my Ford to the levee and it was not dry. Blevins- Crismon-Levee-Nighthawk-Blevins. Still water in the channel below Levee. Lots of Dragonflies and Quail out.

First trail walk since starting PT for a bum knee. Not much pain except ascending out of washes. Nice breezy day. Not too hot. The stagnant pools around the levee from the recent monsoon action were particularly fragrant. Nice to see the coyotes will have something to drink for a while.
