I made my way over to the East Bay today to hike Mission Peak with a lady from work. She wanted to see if I could handle the hard way up, which meant climbing the less traveled Horse Heaven Trail. In was just over 2.5 miles to the summit, and in that short distance the trail gains over 2,000ft. So yeah, it was challenging. We took a longer, more scenic route (Peak Trail) around the North side of the mountain in order to avoid the crowds. So glad we did, as I saw my first rattlesnake in the bay area. I believe it was a Northern Pacific. Great weather and an all around fun hike!

1 hour and 18 minutes to the top. Pretty tough. Nice and frosty at the top with some clouds.

Was staying in Fremont. Got there around 6am, dark, parking lot almost full. Very green tons of cows all over the trail. Nice training hike
