This one has the potential to be a great hike. The payoff are the views up top. The downside is that it is severely overgrown. Long pants and shirt are highly recommended. I wore shorts and short sleeves.

The walk through the pines on the ridge-line is very nice.

Bruce and I had been planning a hiking and touring excursion down Senator Highway for quite some time now. Rain and scheduling issues held us up for almost a month. Today the stars lined up and we were on our way.

We met early and headed up to Prescott where we would start our day long journey down the old dirt Highway. Bruce had done an amazing job of laying out a spread sheet with all the various points of interest along the way. We visited old cemeteries, old town sights, mining spots, and former homesteads as we made our way towards Crown King.

Along our travels we would also hike various trails. We first visited the Pine Spring Cabin area which was very cool. Then we took the Blind Indian Trail and went down to Shady Del Cabin and then made a lasso back to the trailhead. This was my favorite hike of the day. The cabin and it's location were super cool. From here we headed on down the road stopping at several points of interest. The next hike was Horse Mountain. This trail is in serious need of some trimming. The views from up top were absolutely spectacular!

Next I hiked up to Towers Mountain. (Listed in a separate trip log) While Bruce took a short break. After that we headed down the road and hit Porphry Mountain. Once again great views but Horse holds the title for best views of the day.

That would conclude our hikes but not our day. After Porphry we continued on down the road stopping at Bradshaw City and then we made a visit to Bradshaw City Cemetery.

Finally, we headed to Crown King and made a stop for something to eat. Ooops, they quit serving dinner an hour before our arrival. Current time was 7:10pm. :?

It was a fantastic day that I really enjoyed. It was like a history lesson with hiking on a perfect Arizona day. Thanks a bunch Bruce!
