Took Mack's Crossing over to the far rim and SW on FR137 to drop in at Horse Crossing, then downstream along scenic ECC. Fairly easy walking for the most part and not too brushy. The Tinder fire 2 years ago caused lots of damage but there's still plenty of beauty in the canyon.
As I was returning downstream to Mack's I was amazed to see a large pickup inching its way down the east side road above me, and we arrived at the crossing at the same time. They had started down from the rim and eventually couldn't back uphill or turn around - you guessed it, "our GPS told us this was a shortcut". They were able to turn around in the creek, hopefully they made it back up and out.
Since this is so close to the Cabin and we couldn't do the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim we did the East Clear Creek hike. I have wanted to see where it goes on the other side of Mack's Crossing so did that too.. The creek was cold. (rocks were slick and in went my feet) It was really windy and felt more like Autumn.
Autumn Foliage ObservationLight The oaks were starting to turn yellow and there were a few red woodvines too.
