Hike w/ kiddos and grandpa. Started at 6am, not quite early enough to avoid the sun on the hike up. It's been a few years since I was on this route, was glad to see that the trails are just as rocky and annoying. Kids struggled w/ the humidity. Made it to the cave and they magically had infinite energy and we explored and snacked and talked. Return trip was pretty easy, only one bloody knee to bandage up. Returned to grandparent's house for an hour of swimming before the morning storms hit AJ. Great way to spend a Sunday morning.

Been looking up at that hole for a GREAT many more decades that I care to admit, but have never visited. Thought it was finally time and I'm glad I did. Someone mentioned that sunset was best so I took their advice...

I've got some friends in town from Colorado that came down specifically to find out what the Superstitions are all about. I can only do hikes near town and close to wifi, so I am planning on giving them the Best of the Western Supes. They have their dogs with them as well so I need to find appropriate trails for that.

First up, Broadway Cave. They arrived in the afternoon, so I thought a nice little sunset hike will be a good into.

The trail up is the same as always. The weather was really nice and the air was clear. The sunset did not provide any fireworks and faded quickly. But, I love seeing the sun go down (or up) whilst I am in the desert.

Next up over the next 3 days - Peralta/Cave, Boulder Canyon, Treasure Loop/Praying Hands. I will sneak in a trip into the Goldfields somewhere in there too.

I have not been up to the cave in quite a while. I wanted a nice little workout with a nice view of the sunset. This fit the bill perfectly. Still a little toasty out there for November. Looks like the weather will get nicer soon.

There was an empty parking area when I pulled in. The trail is the same as always. Nice and flat and rocky until you get to the base of the mountain. Then, it turns nice and steep and rocky. A couple of other hikers made it up to the cave as well after I had arrived.

The cave is the same as always. I was hearing way more bats that previous visits and there was a slight guano aroma permeating the cave as well. The clouds looks hopeful for a nice sunset. Mother Nature abided and I was treated to a wonderful sunset. Gotta love these AZ sunsets.

The hike down was dark and uneventful. I have seen rattlers on this hike before, but none today. Not many critters at all, actually. Except of course, the bats that started taking off in small waves at dusk.

Picking up from last Sunday, I decided to go back to the western Supes and hike up to the Broadway Cave for the first time ever. To add some mileage, I decided to hike the Lost Goldmine Trail from the Broadway Cave Trail over to Cloudview Road. The last time I had hiked that section of trail was a good 16 years ago or so, and I remember it was a cloudy day in August after a monsoon storm. It was cloudy, humid and wet, not typical conditions you associate with the Sonoran desert. Today was also a little atypical in the sense that everything was very green. but it was very sunny and dry. Very different conditions from the last time I was there.

Wally agreed to join for this hike since it's Supes and he hadn't hiked this section of trail in a while, also. We were the 2nd car at the TH, and the first at the cave. Nice views of the area and the saguaro forest below from up there. Looks like a mine shaft was filled in at the back of the cave. The trail up looks like it braids off in sections, but those sections seem to fade off fairly quickly and are spotty at best (I learned this on my way back down).

Before we got to the Lost Goldmine Trail, the crowds were on their way up. Saw barely anyone on the way out to Cloudview and back and then the half mile to the car saw more hikers than anyone else all day. No wildlife to speak of, but got a few interesting pics of the bomber from Falcon Field and the crowds on the Flatiron and Peak 5057.

A stroll in the fringe on the Superstitions with Chris. The Broadway trailhead was outside of the renaissance traffic that so worked well. I haven't been up the Broadway Cave in a while and it was worth another look. We hiked to the cave early and got the usually busy trail out of the way before the swarm. Jacobs trail meanders back and forth which makes it seem long. The weather was nice and the miles were easy.

Fun quick trip to Broadway Cave, and then up a ways into Monument canyon. What an absolutely day for a hike! :)

Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off route scout when we got back to the car. Oops!

It must be summer already... No other cars at the trail head. I came up this way last weekend to explore Monument Canyon, but didn't have the stamina to visit the cave as well.

I came back today to check out the cave. It did not disappoint. I especially enjoyed listening to the bats hiding in the cracks talking to one another. Fantastic views of the Valley, and a great place to rest.

I hadn't been to Broadway cave in a couple of years, and Kat had never been there, so up we go before it gets too hot. Lots of other people had the same idea, but that's okay, it was a nice day! The cave hasn't changed, still some grafitti :-(

Spur of the moment decision to hit up the Broadway Cave in the afternoon on New Year's Day. More cars than usual at the TH. After the turn off to the cave, though, traffic was light. Didn't see anyone else up to the cave and back, other than two other hikers and their dog hanging at the cave for a few minutes when we arrived. Seeing the snow on the eastern Supes was an unusual contrast. Good stretch of the legs after lounging on NYD.
