Nice hike with the kids. Started on Upper Ranch, Brown’s Mtn, then finished on the road. With the clouds, it was a little cooler than anticipated, but the kids like cold weather. We had the summit to ourselves almost the entire time we were up there. Lots of people heading up while we were on our way down though.

Boyfriend’s house is close to Brown’s Ranch TH. Got up early and was only person on summit trail up and down until last 0.1 mike when I saw two ladies. Summer temps scaring people away I suppose. Insanely humid and plenty of bugs at the top. But beautiful views and awesome solitude with decent workout. Jogged last little stretch.
Ran into a pack of bike steward friends at TH— asked about the very bad idea of closing two of the non gated TH in the Preserve. Infuriating that City employee individual has power to close access to a tax payer funded 31,000 acre preserve with massive boundary lines that can’t be “controlled” and unwieldy mega-trailheads that make you feel like a sheep going through a turnstall when you start your hike ...... City should be opening more access points not closing little ones that allow users to enter the Presrrve in a peaceful way if they have good timing for small parking lot. How many times I have taken my children to the two parking lots they want to close — to do mini hikes — how much conflict is there at megaTH with share the trail issues — why create more bottleneck through fewer places. My Libertarian flag waving here to ask big government (actually one human) why he gets to close access because he can’t “control” access at those points. Put in a freaking gate. How much do those cost ? Ok sorry rant over.

Judy joined me as I did a foot patrol for the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy while wearing my Conservancy shirt and badge. Went up to Brown’s Mountain saddle and down the back side and around mountain counter clockwise. Always busy when we have nice weather on a Sunday. A fellow steward told Pinnacle Peak had 1000 visitors by 11 AM! :(

Got some friends together for a bike ride. None of them having ever been to Brown's Ranch, I figured this would be a good one to introduce them to the area. Actual rout was brown's ranch road to Corral, then around Cholla Mountain, then to balanced rock, then a loop around Granite Mountain, then pipeline to the new section of Chuckwagon back to the lot. I like the new section of Chuck wagon. It helps with the boring Pipeline road. I only wish it went further east. I guess the other option is to go all the way down to Latigo. I do like the granite mountain loop a lot. There is always some rental/tour groups out here and this day there was also an REI group ride. It looks like they already started construction on the new parking area on Pima/Dynamite.

Took it easy this weekend after over-doing it last weekend. Hiked to the summit of Brown's Mountain from the Brown's Ranch Trailhead. Hit the trail around 6:20 so it was getting a little warm as I hiked up, but this is a short and easy hike. I of course got my obligatory 360 photo from the summit:

Also spotted a desert tortoise. Photos to come.

Followed a route from The_Eagle from June '15. Super busy with lots of bikes due to some event from REI. The trails are super smooth and the miles sort of just melt away; even when you are sick. I had to talk myself into knocking out the Jane Rau trail at the end and almost stepped on a rattler while on it.

Stayed local and tried the northern part of the park. Saw no hikers, but plenty of bikers. Winds kept it cool.
The Saguaros, Cholla and Prickly Pear are a week from bursting open. Select ones were open today.
Special treat was to watch a pappa Hawk feeding it's young.

Nice hike on some trails in the MSPN area with Ryan and Lauren. Saw our first rattler of the year spotted by Lauren in the third hiker position :o Good for Ryan and I it was on its best behavior. Nice morning hike.

Decided to check out a part of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve I hadn't gone to yet. I kept taking less busy trails to avoid the people until finally I caught the summit trail. Decent little climb and I had he summit to myself. Ate some fruit, took a video and started back down.

Met Larry at the trailhead at 9am. Started on Hackamore, and made a large clockwise loop towards Brown's Mountain. At the spur trail to the top, Larry decided to wait while I went up there real quick. I headed up, looked around for a minute, then headed back down to the main trail. On my way down, there was a bicyclist carrying his bike to the top, he said he was going to ride back down and said it's his favorite part of the trail. I half jokingly told him to wait until I was done and off that part of trail so as to avoid becoming a speed bump for him. We headed back to the trailhead, then threw in the Jane Rau Trail for good measure. Nice day, but it sure did warm up quickly.

Well this hike started out nice and cool but warmed up quickly. Linda went up to Browns Ranch Summit and I waited as I was really feeling good. I think the quick rise in temperature and the humidity got to me early today.

Did this hike from the parking lot on Alma School up the the Brown's Summit spur. I recorded 3.1 miles round trip and 502AEG. The hike was a bit easier than I expected, the trail is very smooth and the incline is gradual other than the last spur up to the summit. Good day to be on the trail and the views are fantastic from the top.

Did this loop clockwise, following Booneman's official route: Passed Cone Mtn on the N, then continued N on the rough and lonesome Upper Ranch Tr with its numerous ravines and finally to the Mountain Tr and on up to the saddle of Brown's Mountain. At the saddle I did not go for the summit on the S nor the Scenic Overlook on the N. I had an hour before sunset, and I knew the camera would be busy shooting this beautiful, virgin land as the shadows began to stretch across it. I got disgusted with the gods of Four Peaks for keeping them optically tantalizing yet unlit. Can't have everything. Got back 10 minutes after a terrific sunset with only two other vehicles remaining in the parking lot. The lot was very busy earlier. If only I lived closer to Brown's Ranch than what is the actual 33 miles and close to an hour's drvie, I would be out here much more often. For desert scenery, I can think of only a couple places in Maricopa County that match this area.

Patches of Fiddle Neck and Phacelia mostly coming up Brown Mountain's NW slope. Also ran into two or three Blue Dick blooms. This area is still a week or two away from hitting peak wildflower season.
