A pleasant 70 at start and 75 at finish
Saw 8 mtn bikers. There is still plenty of stuff flowering.
We were short on time today due to other commitments so we did a loop in MSPN
Whiskey Bottle - Latino - 118th St - Vaquero - Maverick - Watershed - Cholla Mtn Loop - Chuck aagon - Powerline - Yucca - Dixeleta - Service Rd #4 - Black Hill
Saw 4 deer
Wanted to do a loop involving Dixileta and wanted to do it jogging. Accomplished one of the two. Did the Dixileta but the foot said "no" to jogging. A self diagnosis makes me think I may have plantar fasciitis. Whatever it is, it's rough to walk let alone jog. Anyway...started from the Fraesfield TH and took Monument Hill to the 136 Express and then to the Dixileta. The Monument and the 136 Express are really nice trails as is the first part of the Dixileta after the first mile though the Dixileta turns into a broad straight road that heads due west. That may be changing because it looks as if they are expanding the golf course to the south. I then took the 118th St north and then hit parts of the following trails: Watershed-Cholla Loop-Balancing Rock-Granite Mountain Loop-Black Hills Trail. Really enjoy these trails out here. Great little loop. Saw about 20 hikers and bikers, which is a decent number for a midday hike. Wildlife included quail, several chipmunks and a squirrel.
Another couple of loops in MSPC and MSPN. Started from Fraesfiled TH and did a loop in central area and then a loop in the northern area. Saw a dead coyote It was near a road so I guess it was perhaps hit by a vehicle and then moved off to the side near the trail.
Central area was pretty quiet with 2 hikers and 2 bikers. The north was busier with 7 hikers and 15 bikers.
The morning turned warmer than I thought as Sun was out. Did Latigo trail as it warms me up nicely. Saw one dog off leash near Fraesfield.
Had a nice chat with retired COS employee. He saw fresh mountain lion tracks in the area.
Overall a very nice hike.
Did patrol hike this am. Weather was windy, gloomy and couldn't see anything initially. Things cleared up towards noon and parking lot filled up nicely. Saw several muledeer today while going and coming back on latigo. Was able to photograph them first time in the preserve
