After jog cool down. Walked both loops. Ok nature trail. Enjoyed the possible origin stories for Lost Dog Wash. Wish that was a more common aspect of trails in general. Would love to know the history of the trails I hike. How .long they've been around. How they might have changed. How they got their name. Trivial stuff really. Nature trail is easy follow. Ice path made of crushed granite. Had about 10 info signs and about 8 plaques labeling the plants. Saw two other hikers in the trail. Also saw a couple of rabbits, lizards and quail.

1st trip
needed a double digit training hike with some aeg, not on south mountain
started from lost dog trailhead, went up to sunrise peak, down to 145th street and back
then took ringtail to the jeep trail, and lost dog to taliesen overlook
lost dog back to the trailhead
didn't know if anyone had a track for the new nature trail, so i finished with that - it's cute
saw maybe 15 hikers and three mountain bikers - no one on the west side of sunrise, old jeep or ringtail
83 degrees when i started, 91 at the finish and quite humid
cloud cover for most of sunrise and a good breeze all morning
always enjoy sunrise peak and the east side views

Attended biomimicry hike today. Got there early and did kovach trail first. Day is windy but beautiful. The parking lot and beginning are of the trail is always windy to me like venturi effect.
This is my second hike as an assistant to assist the leader. Now I have graduated to be an assistant on any of the hikes. :D
There is a FB page for MSP stewards. I post my patrol hikes there with a few photos. Today I was approached by the team lead for patrol. She wanted to know if i take the pictures my self or if i copy and paste from internet :o She likes my photos but wanted the credit to go to the original photographer....lol  . I do take photos myself for anyone out there that has that question. I can honestly say, no one has ever asked me that question before :)

As a new MSP steward, attended an orientation to lead 'hike' in msp. Stayed afterwards and did the kovach trail as i have not done that before. Day is very windy and cloudy. Saw a baby kestrel.

Participated with other MSC Nature Guides at the grand opening celebration of the nature trail. Caroline helped me and several of her friends and George's friends also attended. I met Christine Kovach at the MSC Steward retreat in the Fall - - details of her contributions to the Preserve/Land Trust/Conservancy are well documented in the book by Joan Fudala "The People's Preserve". $15 short easy read. scottsdaleaz.gov/pr ... tory

Easy, short, slow hike/walk as I strained a calf muscle on Sept 4th. This was my first outing since that date. Also walked the new interpretive trail near the Lost Dog TH. It's not signed yet and should officially open early next year.

For two hours before the hike I shadowed my McDowell Sonoran Conservancy mentor as a Pathfinder at the Lost Dog trailhead. Pathfinders are the folks in the blue shirts who hand out educational material, maps and help you select the hike that meets your needs. OH...and we also tell folks to push not pull on the doors to get into the restrooms. :D
