More water than usual in this canyon for the time of year, but all still avoidable with creativity and a bit of luck.
All the normal pools were completely full with water flowing out and over the lip.
Anchors good - we replaced some webbing, but nothing major.

Quick run. Canyon and all anchors in good condition. All water avoidable with some careful hand and footwork.

Redbuds just starting to open, but everything in full flower on the lower slopes coming out of the canyon.

Another great day in the canyon. Conditions good - all water avoidable at present with a little creativity. Only one piece of anchor webbing needed replacement.

Another go-round of this local canyon. Completed it in daylight this time, and without getting wet. :y: I have learned so much in one short year!

After a less-than-early start, we ended up finishing the last 3 rappels and the hike out in the dark, but it turned out fun anyway. This was a step up for me in terms of canyoneering difficulty, with my first more technical rappels as well as the first time I had to release myself from my device in deep cold water in real life.

Pools at bottom of rappels 6&7 were full swimmers. On 6, our first person down noted a very thin knee-deep ledge against the wall LDC in the pool. Very slick, but holding on to him with a death grip, we all made that one without swimming. On the 7th, I went swimming, but our last down figured out that if you aimed RDC during rappel, you could use some boulders to avoid the deepest part of the pool and only wade knee-deep. It was a short swim, but the water was truly cold and I had forgotten how terrible it is to swim with a pack on :scared: . My pack towel plus dry change of clothes immediately after finishing the swim was a life-saver - should have worn a wetsuit for this one. Live and learn.

The frogs serenaded us continuously, starting at sun down. The redbuds in the canyon were just beginning to pop and it was a really great day overall. The rappels in the sculpted chutes were especially fun. Also, rap 5, under a boulder choke into this neat grotto-like area.

Some annuals on the hike to the Red Rock escarpment.
Redbuds just beginning to flower throughout the canyon. Should be full-on soon.
