| no partners | | | The rain stopped by noon today in Castella, so it was a great time to hike to Burstarse Falls. The parking lot at Dog trailhead is large, and unfortunately had some trash througout. But that's just the parking lot, where some people go to shoot. Dog Trail and the PCT was pristine. The PCT passed several creeks that had plenty of water flowing from recent precipitation. There were tiny patches of snow on the ground, but not many. I passed Popcorn Springs, and soon reached Burstarse Creek which had a small wooden sign attached to a tree marking the creek. There isn't much of a trail up the canyon along the creek, but there is a steep path on the east side of the creek to reach the lower falls. The lower falls are about 25 feet tall, with plenty of water flowing at this time. I was able to continue up past these falls before having to cross to the west side of the creek, and eventually had an obstructed view of the grand Burstarse Falls which are about two or three times taller than the lower falls. Falling right off the edge of a cliff down to the creek. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get much closer at the time, the rocks were slippery and I didn't want to risk falling in or getting hurt. Nature wins this time, so I'll have to go back again more prepared to get the full view of the upper falls. |
