day 2 of usury, went for a hike this time. Chose the far corner of the park to avoid people and only saw 2 hikers and 2 bikers. I did have to cross over LEvee to get to where I was parked and saw some people further down on levee.

Did not intend to hike another county park today since I just did San Tan last week, but had early business in Mesa today so this was the closest option. Drove by 2 schools on the way to the trailhead and no school zone flashing lights, uh oh, sure enough it’s spring break this week. The spring break crowd was concentrated in the vicinity of the Wind Cave trailhead so it wasn’t noticeable from the Meridian , winter visitor, parking. Wildflowers were a bit more prevalent than last month though still not abundant, hopefully this weeks predicted rain will extend the season. Ground squirrels and lizards were wildlife of the day, a bee swarm was avoided near the junction leading to the equine populated pass mountain trailhead. Still prefer to take Blevins and Meridian to return to the meridian trailhead, I don’t mind the road walk at the end.

After hiking over 10 miles and nearly 3000 feet the day before, I wasn't really sore at all. My legs must be in good hiking shape. I decided to take another hike over at Usery Park and took Dmitri again. I wanted to completely hike the Channel Trail and a few other spur trails there. We got down to the area and I ended up finding an unmapped trail heading north. I decided to take that, and then hiked the Noso Trail back down to the Channel Trail. We didn't much farther before I found another unmapped trail going north again. We took that, then headed over to the Ruidoso Trail. On that trail, I found yet a 3rd unmapped trail that headed to the west. I decided against that and kept going on the Ruidoso, on to the County Line, Meridian, and Blevins Trails back to the trailhead. Finished up with 9.7 miles total, which is an other record for Dmitri. He was getting pretty sore the last mile and a half, but pushed through very well.

It was very cloudy to start, but got a little sunny by the end. The first 2 hours, we hardly saw anyone, the last hour and a half, the crowds were out. Finished up before 11am, nice morning on the trails.

Wanted a close by hike with no route finding needed or vegetation obstacles, this one filled the bill nicely. Started from Meridian Trailhead and headed out past the Meridian Mystery Trail toward the saddle to complete the 3004 loop first. It was sunny and a little breezy at the start but soon a dark gray sky blanket came along with a cool breeze and distant views became hazy. Passed a couple of hikers coming back down from the saddle and on the other side 3 more coming down from Pass Mountain trail. Back on PMT still only a few other hikers until the Windcave trailhead , a full lot there, only a couple of bikes today. Decided to take a break near the Maricopa Trail junction , went uphill from there toward the route for the ridgeline hike. This area can be good for wildflower viewing maybe in a couple of weeks and contains obvious remnants of prior target range use. Went up to a highpoint there ,which route scout indicated as 2525, by the way also a top hit about the time of the first lunar landing, had a snack break there. Surprised not to see the fountain display in Fountain Hills despite it being on the hour, had to settle for the entertainment of automatic weapons fire from the Usery range. Proceeding on I noticed more Chuparosa along this west facing stretch. As far as trail tread my favorite stretch is from the Wind Cave Trailhead to the Pass Mountain trailhead, least favorite from Pass Mountain trailhead to Meridian trailhead. Taking another break at the Pass Mountain trailhead , sat at one of the picnic tables and from there decided to bypass PMT ,take a mileage penalty and to go back via Blevins and Meridian Trail, even though it required 1/2 mile road walk. Enjoyable day , changing direction of travel or adding variations can refresh a familiar hike.

Geocaching in the Park. It actually rained on me, which was a pleasant surprise for an afternoon late in April.

Last minute decision to go here today, started at Meridian TH, before starting the loop took the short hop down Meridian road to begin on Meridian trail then Blevins , Vista, and Merkle trails finally joining the loop at pass mountain TH ,also added a short trip up toward the ridgeline at the Maricopa Trail junction . Poppies, lupine still blooming but drying out, may last a couple of more weeks, hedgehogs coming out now with there beautiful magenta colored flower. Saw a Gila monster in thick vegetation, no reasonable photo possible. Nice new restroom at the Pass Mountain Trailhead no more port a potties, would suggest a good workout by parking here and hike up to the wind cave via windcave trail and return on the gentle downhill slope on this portion of the loop trail , avoids the crowded small wind cave lot, adds about a mile to the wind cave hike. Cloud cover and breeze kept it cool until midday, trails were populated also until then , only saw 1 hiker on the way down from the saddle to the trailhead. Weekdays are nice as only came across 2 mountain bikers and that was on Blevins.

Yesterday, just 12-days after surgery at my first follow-up visit the doc removed the adhesive pad (used in lieu of stitches) and everything looks great. No pain, just a constant itching from the incision.
Doc ok'd more/longer walks so I'll be ramping that up soon.
For a bit more variety and better views, today we hit up some old favorites for an easy loop. Great weather, only buzzed by a couple RC airplanes along Ruidoso.

First trail walk since starting PT for a bum knee. Not much pain except ascending out of washes. Nice breezy day. Not too hot. The stagnant pools around the levee from the recent monsoon action were particularly fragrant. Nice to see the coyotes will have something to drink for a while.

The gym was getting to be tedious, so I decided to take a brisk afternoon walk instead. Started a little after 4pm. Yep, that was hot, but at least there was a breeze.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I was in the Goldfield Mountains and the temps were pleasant at this hour. Today... 92 at 8 a.m. when we pulled up to the Meridian trailhead. Such a shame too. My tween is starting to get interested in hiking. We only managed a couple of miles; my call to make it a short one.
