This was an out and back with one night camped at the GSMNP Backcountry campsite #15. I started near the Abrams creek campground where there is a generous parking area. There is a crossing of Abrams creek immediately as you begin the hike. It's only knee deep and compares to a WCC creek crossing, only twice as wide. From there, it is uphill for the next about 2 miles, passing plenty of feeder creeks. At 2.7 miles you'll pass Backcountry campsite #16, and the turnoff for Hannah Mountain trail (left 1.9 miles to Abrams creek), and the turnoff for Backcountry campsite #14 (right about 3.2 miles). Continuing straight another half mile or so, you cross Rabbit creek and arrive at backcountry campsite #15. This is a fairly large site with 4 fire rings and room for multiple tents or hammocks. I had it to myself. The close proximity of the creek provided great water for filtering and soothing sounds at night that mask the sounds of the forest and bears nearby. Rabbit creek provides ample fishing opportunities and boasts a population of wild rainbows and brookies. I caught neither on this trip. There was a recent bear incident at Backcountry campsite #29, but I didn't see any at all.
