LiLD joined me for a Father’s Day Hike. The little parking lot was full so we parked back by the horse trailer parking! A little warm out here today but bearable before 8. Thanks son! Like HAZ, you rock!!

A cool crisp overcast morning after a rain is one of my favorite times to get a hike in. I was joined by the usual suspects. Dove, Quail, Rabbits. I even got a fly over by a Great Horned Owl! Half way up I was serenaded by two packs of Coyotes. An Alta trail pack from the west and a Los Lomitas trail pack from the east 😎! On the way back down a pack crossed in front of me ,west to east, then went up on a ridge . I even did a tiny bit of Los Lomitas for Kelly. Very enjoyable hike! 😏

Hiked up Pyramid at first light. Went west on National, down and up Ranger, west to Goat Hill, and back on Ruins. Cold to begin with but the uphill cured that. Not too many people on the trails while I was there, although parking was full when I left.
Nothing unusual to report or confess. :)

Lovely day on the mountain. Flora is responding to the recent rains. Counted 56 bursera descending Lost Ranch Mine. :)

Another early start to make sure I get a parking spot and enjoy the new day.
From the Pyramid trailhead I hiked up Lost Mine, down Mine Drop/Lost Ranch Mine, up Ruins, then west on National.
Went off trail at the quartz boulders to check out a mine below. Bushwhacked from there down to the Bajada, then onto the National to it's western terminus. Hiked up the Alta trail to Maricopa Peak, then down Alta to the Bajada. Took Bajada east to the Ranger trail then up to the National and Goat Hill. Hiked back to the car via Lost Mine and a little bit of Pyramid.
Cool and breezy which was perfect for a long hike. Clouds helped make the scenery even more dramatic. :)

Exact repeat from 4 yrs ago sans gecko, and possibly my first haz-qualified peak of '21? :-k

Surprised myself a bit on time and comfort. All seemed to be in order. I really do enjoy the descent on Kiwanis. Unfortunately it hits a concrete wall of scenery and intrigue on the valley traverse  Still better to make it a loop in my book rather than an out n back.

Took a mid-day hike up Telegraph Pass, down Kiwanis, up Ranger to National and back down Telegraph. I have done this hike the other way couple of times and this way is a little more
climbing! 🥵. Passed a Cowboy on his mount on Los Lomitas and he was kind enough to turn off his boom box. Quite a few hikers today enjoying the nice cool temps. Got up to National and I got a whiff of foul smelling smoke. A couple was laying on a blanket smoking.... Don’t mess up the fresh air of my hike!!😩
Got to the stone structure up above Telegraph and a young couple was playing grab a- -.😳 Oh well, it was a good hike anyway. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

decided to hit goat hill via ranger this morning since parking isn't usually an issue
for some reason the summit road was closed at the one mile marker, making ranger parking lot full
found a spot not far away in one of the horse lots
got going around 1000
up to goat hill, seeing more people than usual, even for a weekend
west on national, down eliminator and up lost ranch mine
back on national and ranger
gave two parties directions
saw more people on the mine trails that i would have thought
air quality was much better today
cool temps, light breeze
new twist on an old standby

Went beyond the hill on the National Trail, after summiting Goaty McGoat Face Hill. Boaty's cousin.

Super windy, and not that many people. As crowded as the road coming in to the park was, the Ranger Trail wasn't really that bad. Toe recovery continues, with the thought that if the toe doesn't flex too much, I can do a lap on #300 for leg strength.

Denny’s turn to choose the hike today. We got started around 7:45 and headed up Telegraph. At the the road, we headed down Kiwanis, west on Los Lomitas, then up Ranger. Lots of flowers through that stretch. At the top of Ranger, we headed west on National to Goat Hill, then back east on National down to Telegraph. Despite Denny choosing the hike, he threw me under the bus while talking to two hikers on National; they were surprised we hiked uphill twice and he told them I was a slave driver. Just wait til our next hike together. Back down Telegraph to finish out the hike. Cool and breezy most of the morning, but warm as we finished up the last mile or so.

In addition to hiking beyond the hill on the National for a bit, I stopped to enjoy the rather humid/ moist air and relax listening to some birds. 1 week to solstice!

Took advantage of the last sort of nice day before the big storm later this week. Left from the five tables trailhead up the ranger Trail, met the national and then proceeded clockwise on it, the pyramid, and then the bursera before returning on the national and ranger. Stopped off on Goat Hill, as well. It was dark by then so the city lights were enjoyable.

From the Coyote roaming the flats near the trailhead (at 3 PM) to the complete lack of people out on the trail west of the Ranger Trail, this was almost the exact opposite of what I am use to experiencing in the city. Goat Hill was a nice little summit, with some great views in all directions: I could see Bighorn Peak! However, the overall views and solitude on the National Trail were very surprising. As it was, I only saw 2 people on the upper Ranger. The views off the National Trail Ridge were really quite expansive, and it had an Estrella feel to it, if the Estrella Mountains had a trail running down their spine. I would like that.

Being a lovely afternoon, I went at least a mile past Goat on the National Trail. The 202 is coming along nicely, and the views well beyond the Estrella and White Tanks are timely to excite me for coming desert hikes. Coming back was as nice as going out, with views to the 4 Peaks, the Catalina Mountains, Table Top, and the south. Remarkably quiet, with a few birds chirping being most of the sounds. There were even very few jets from the airport. It was pleasantly warm, but I was reminded a lot of my hike on the ridge headed to Estrella Peak last December. I don't know if I will incorporate this into my workout routine hikes, but I should come out here more frequently.

Started at 5:00 to nice temps and a good breeze. Up Telegraph, then down Kiwanis. We could smell smoke on Kiwanis, and actually looked around for anything smoldering. The people behind us did too. We finally decided it was just smoke hanging in the air from the fire to the north of the Valley. West on the gem of SoMo—Los Lomitas. Up Ranger, a side trip to Goat Hill, then back over to Telegraph. Plenty of people by then, plus some horses. Temps were still nice to finish. Good hike, and good company—Thanks, Denny!

I met Linda for a Friday morning hike. Telegraph parking lot has a fresh face. The trail is a little worn but it is a busy trail. Kiwanis is in pretty good shape. Los Lamitas is pristine and the highlight of this loop! Ranger, Goat hill and national all good and very dry! The temps were nice . Nice workout and my hiking partner along with the conversation were top notch 😁. Thanks Linda, you rock!
