A NICE SUNNY DAY BUT THE SHADOWS GET LONG IN THE CANYONS THIS TIME OF YEAR. THE WATER TEMP OF THE COLORADO WAS ABOUT 47 DEGREES SO THERE WAS NO WATER FIGHTS ON THE RAFT TRIP BUT WHEN WE LANDED AT THE BEACH WE HAD FULL SUN AND THE WARMTH WAS GREAT. A SHORT HIKE TO THE PETROGLYPHS PROVIDED A GOOD STRETCH. THE SANDSTONE WALLS PROVIDE AN ENDLESS CANVASS FOR EARLY WRITINGS. NPS SUSPECTS THERE ARE ADDITIONAL WRITINGS ON THE WALLS UNDER THE ACCUMULATED SAND BUT AS YET HAVE NOT OFFICIALLY INVESTIGATED.
It's best for a man to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open his mouth and remove all doubt.
Spent three days last year over 4th of July with my wife and her parents floating down the Colorado in Glen Canyon. Very beautiful. We tried our hands at fly fishing, but the trout were too warry. Saw palid toads, rainbow trouts, and red, fuzzy ants, along with blue herons and red-tailed hawks. Quite a colorful journey. Reached the petroglyphs on the afternoon of the second day.
"The only thing we did was wrong was staying in the wilderness to long...the only thing we did was right was the day we started to fight..."
