Sycamore Creek area closure / Flood Danger

Sycamore Creek area closure / Flood Danger

Postby chumley » Jun 27 2012 3:55 pm

Due to the Sunflower Fire, Tonto National Forest has closed a significant portion of the Sycamore Creek drainage downstream. The closure will be in effect until July 31, 2012.

(Note, this area is currently closed under a larger FS-closure order due to fire danger. If the fire danger closure is lifted, the area will remain closed due to the flooding danger).

I have created a map of the closure area since one is not provided in the closure order:

As soon as the July 31st closure ended I made plans for some extreme four-wheeling to a remote hike in the area... unfortunately I didn't check with the FS before heading out this morning only to find the gate locked. ](*,)
What a waste of time and gas! :-({|=

So on the way back home I stopped at the Mesa FS office only to find even though it wasn't posted on the web until today, a new closure order was issued 7/30, closing the same area until August 22, unless terminated sooner. I won't be holding my breath though, my gut says it will very likely be extended again.

Here's the latest closure order:
