Phoenix Canariensis

Common Names: Canary Island Date Palm, Pineapple Palm
Habitat: Common in lower desert and other warm areas planted in parks and yards.
Flowers: Large clusters born on a long stalk. White to cream colored
Description: A single stem with large, pinnate leaves that can be up to 15 feet long form a crown of fronds that can span 30 feet. The long leaves are easily distinguished from the True Date Palm by the curved ends.
Comments: Does produce an edible fruit protion over the seed, but the flesh is too thin to be eaten.
