Phoenix dactylifera

Common Names: Date Palm, True Date Palm
Habitat: In north America: around washes, wet areas, and especially in landscaping in warm desert climates. There are many plantations of this palm in extreme southeast California, and southwest Arizona in irrigated farmland.
Flowers: Large clusters born on a long stalk. White to cream colored
Description: A single stem with large, pinnate leaves that can be up to 15 feet long form a crown of fronds that can span 30 feet.
Comments: Edible dates can be harvested from the date palm. It should not be confused for the Canary Island Date palm, which is similar in appearance.
