| no partners | | I brot my passport just in case I felt like running up to Waterton after my Belly River Ranger Station hike. On my way into Canada, the border agent was a bit surprised at my reason for coming to Canada: "to have dinner". I hadn't driven this since 2001 so I really didn't remember much. But it is some drive let me tell you. Once you start seeing the plains roll out before you and the Rockies jetting out of the ground on your left (west); it's simply astonishing .
I was pleased with all of this beauty and even more pleased when I got a senior discount.. well I was pleased monetarily, to enter the Park. The drive in is something you want to do very slowly. There are a couple areas to pull over but I was hungry so I kept going. There is a nice paved walkway that comes all the way from town out here... must be several miles. But wow, what a route that would be.
I also didn't realize there were 3 lakes of Waterton as I kept driving by all this water. The mountains were stunning between the color, the height, the geology and the light dancing on them, yep, what a drive . I spent a couple hours I think, maybe not that long, at Waterton (a separate trip report: http://hikearizona.com/photoset=26804, I will add photos tomorrow) and drove on back to the US. I was exhausted but once again, there are pullouts, there are views, there are flowers and mountains and lakes so I had to stop at the two major ones.
Not only that, on this one section the highway was lined by these incredible daisies. I did take video here and there. The video is of the entire Waterton foray http://youtu.be/HwF5z4jYE9U. The only disappointing thing was the clouds that obstructed the view of the top parts of the mountains and in the case of Chief Mtn, no view. I'm glad I had taken photos on the way in.
And just when I think I can keep on driving, as I come over the hill on the Chief Mtn Hwy, I am presented with views of the green, green plains and cattle grazing and ponds and cool trees. It's like enough already. I am on oversensory beauty mode, I can't really take much more . But, you guessed it, I pulled over again to take some more shots as I did when I hit Going to the Sun Road before finally arriving at the Rising Sun to buy my huckleberry beer and retire to my cottage.
What a day this has been, what a rare mood I am in and how lucky am I to be able to have a day like this! |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
