| no partners | | This dirt road goes to the top of Palomar Mountain from Pauma Valley, ending up at Palomar State Park, which is a fee area. You can turn around and drive back down, and not pay the fee, which is $8 per car, but I planned to pay it, and hiked in the park after my drive up the dirt road. I heard there is a way to get around the park, also, but I didn't see where that turnoff would have been.
I have this marked as a "scenic drive," since I drove my 20-year-old Honda Accord up it, but most people probably would balk at driving a sedan up this road. It surely was scenic. It would be 4WD if there is ice and snow. Yes, it does snow on Palomar! I saw several mountain bikers and spoke to them. One told me he walks up it sometimes, too. I had already thought about doing that! What a wonderful place is Palomar! When I was a kid it was too far from Pt. Loma, so we didn't go there often. Now I live very close to it, though. |
