| no partners | | Knowing a real little heat wave was about to occur, my friend Paul said he was going up to the Pinaleno Mountains for a brief escape, and wanted to know if I would join him. Sure no problem! Shortly after that I got a PM from Chums saying he was heading up to Knoll Lake to get out of the blast furnace for a couple days too, and asked if I wanted to join him up there ( ). Well, I decided that I would go with the first offer and head up to the Mt. Graham area.
A group of us were to meet at Soldier Creek CG Sunday and camp for a couple nights. I was the first one there, and quite frankly was sort of amazed at how few people were on the mountain considering the weather conditions. There were no campers at either Columbine Corrals or Soldier Creek! We were the only ones at the campground Sunday night (not counting the host). Monday night one other family came in to camp, but that was it.
This was a very nice time to camp. No threat of rain and a new moon to make it nice and dark at night for star gazing. The campground is at about 9300 feet, so even with the above normal temperatures it was just about perfect. High temperatures at my place in Tucson were 113 Saturday, 114 Sunday and Monday, and 108 on Tuesday (when I went home). At the campground it was 75 both Sunday and Monday. Overnight low temperatures back home were 66 Saturday to Monday, and 65 Tuesday. On the mountain? How about 43 Monday morning and 42 Tuesday morning. Guess we had a good plan.
Oh yeah, Mars is still rocking the night sky!
Let the monsoon watch begin! With all the fires burning right now, I hope the humidity and rain doesn't come late this year. |
