We opted to explore the safer nearby drainage of East Fork Buzzard Canyon. This turned out to be a beautiful lush rainforest. the first few miles followed elk paths and was easy going. Eventually it did canyon-up with limestone and then sandstone walls. We encountered 4 easy down climbs and one waist deep pothole before entering West Fork Oak Creek. 1.5mi or so of rock hopping up canyon we retrieved our shuttle vehicle. This 5 mile hike was a good consolation prize and a good choice as the clouds did bust loose dumping rain and hail around 3pm. |
