| partners | | Since I wasn't aware of any sneak routes for this canyon I decide to come up with own using the Calloway trail. We used 142B as our access. Anything has to be better than the long slog down WCC we did the previous time. When we suited up I thought my 5mm wetsuit was overkill. I was freaking hot! So instead of avoiding the pool in the middle of rappel #1 I jumped right in. Since I was cooled off I was quite happy after that! Especially in the swim section after the second rappel. We rappelled the 'optional' one - I didn't feel it was optional for me. Then the last rappel was pretty cool as it had a short overhang.
When we got to WCC we jumped into a deep pool (be sure to scout for rocks as the creek can change) to complete our rinse cycle! We left our wetsuits on to finish our route up creek to the Calloway trail. This section of WCC is very pretty. There is however a couple sections of dense foliage. Over the summer routes probably become established but the plants were winning the battle over Memorial Day weekend.
The Calloway is a nice route out!
We made wonderful pizzas in camp that night. |
