Back in the day, when the 'Goons' were not a FOUND location - as they are today - my buddies and I would head-out mainly in winter or early spring for some reason. I can remember having all of our gear and ourselves piled in the open bed of a pick-up truck in the week before new year's 1990. We were hunkered down in the cold for the drive-out from Tucson. This defined route was just the warm-up...I've hiked it in the dark on other outings - then splintered-off onto a shindagger cover spine and gone to a secret camping cave that was established below the Rock Dome on the eastern-side for years, until someone told the ranger and the Forest Service cleaned out the communal cave set-up - gear and all. Such a rarified situation! Those Dragoons are 20 years gone...all the caving possible inside the dome without climbing-pro has been done as well. - MaNtiS
