I made it about .2 miles and then a big pesky waterfall blocked my way. So instead of doing the smart thing and turn around, I decided to endure a scary climb up the side of the big hill . Once I made it to Peak 5,552, the torture paid off with great 360 views. I could even see my car. From there I headed down and hit a de-commissioned 4-wheel drive road and then on to Saddle Mountain trail. Took that until the turn where it heads down to Sheep Creek but decided to stay high and glass the ridges for future reference. Then headed straight down to the junction of Sheep/Saddle/Thicket and turned onto the AZT. There was more water in Sheep Creek today than yesterday. I took Thicket(AZT) then McFarland Canyon back out to 25a.
When I hit junction for the AZT, it had started to get windier and grayer out. So I decided a trip to Sheep Mountain wasn't a good idea. I never rained but it felt like it would a few times. My late start and poor choice of canyon didn't help either. It was nice to see Sheep and the ridgeline from another vantage point. |
