| no partners | | Was stopped about 250 feet short of the trailhead by a man-made rock wall blocking access to the usual parking area. I pulled off the side of the road and parked my vehicle. Continued up the trail towards Siphon Draw. Great cloud cover this morning made for an interesting sky against the foreground of the Superstitions. Took about 30 minutes to reach the basin. Short water break, then continued back the same way.
Spoke to a neighborhood local who explained the rock barrier. She said they just established a new trailhead location about 100 feet from where I was standing. I checked it out. She is correct. Tonto has come through and marked a new official trailhead at the northwest corner of the Mining Camp Restaurant parking lot. I'm still not sure that the rock barrier is legitimate. Afterall, rocky as the road may be, it is still McKellips Road, and as far as I'm concerned, it is still a public right-of-way. |
