Should be called Rainbow Domes by Steph_and_Blake ![]() Overview This is a short hike through multi-colored sandstone formations of various shapes and sizes. It would be a great place to take kids to burn off some of their energy! Warning Be careful of your footing when there's a light layer of sand on the slickrock. History During the hike you'll pass by a stone and timber wall that's leftover from the filming of the 1965 movie, The Professionals. Hike Starting at the White Domes parking area and going in a clockwise direction, you'll hike upwardly through two tall sandstone walls. Once through this "hallway", you'll begin your descent and get the first view of the white domes. The colorful rock formations will make you forget that it's a bit of a workout walking through the sand. Take your time (and lots of pictures) as the hike is short and there's a lot to see. In about 1/3 of a mile you'll come to the partial wall from the movie set. Past the wall you'll drop into Kaolin Wash and see a sign pointing you to the right (west). Follow the trail through a short narrow section (less than a football field long) and arrive at another sign. Again, you'll be directed to the right (heading north) through a gap in the sandstone. Eventually you'll pop out of the sandstone formations at the road that leads to the parking lot and your vehicle. The entire hike, except for the short stretch paralleling the road, is very scenic and amazing. Check out the Official Route and Triplogs.
