Mormon Trail - South Mountain is a 1.25 mile one way hike with 754 feet elevation gain. Located 12 miles south of Phoenix Arizona. The trailhead is car accessible. March and February are the best months to enjoy this hike.


Overview
The Mormon Trailhead, located at the base of South Mountain near 24th Street and Valley View Avenue (south of Baseline Road), offers a short but challenging hike for those wanting to connect with the National Trail or Mormon Loop. From this junction, hikers may proceed east on Mormon Loop toward Pima Canyon, or south and then west on the National Trail to access Fat Man's Pass, Hidden Valley, and the Natural Tunnel.

    To Mormon Trailhead
    Take Baseline Road to South 24th street and turn south. Follow South 24th Street 0.8 miles, continue on past East Euclid Avenue, then turn east (almost immediately) onto East Valley View Drive (you really have no other choice) and park on the south side of the street near the Mormon Trailhead signs at the base of South Mountain.
