Good urban walking trail
by paulshikleejr

Likely In-Season!
Overview
Conocido Park is one of the City of Phoenix's larger traditional parks. This makes the perimeter of Conocido Park a nice, easy urban hike. However, because parts of the perimeter are unpaved, there can be just a little bit of excitement.

Located just west of I-17 and north of Greenway Road, this park is easy to get to and offers a number of nearby pre- and post-hike refreshment options within in few minutes drive. The park doesn't have restrooms but it does have drinking fountains. This park offers disc golf, an exercise course, benches, picnic areas, a shaded playground, and a soccer field.

Hike
The "trailhead" can be considered to be in the one parking lot this park has where West Monte Cristo Avenue meets North 31st Drive (roughly 33.631067, -112.126331). After parking, you can begin a clockwise hike around the park's perimeter by heading back towards West Monte Cristo Avenue and turning right onto North 31st Drive. Head northwest and walk along 31st Drive. It will curve and morph into Paradise Lane and you will find yourself headed west. Do not follow 34th Avenue south. Instead, walk forward (west) from that bend and to the block wall which you will follow as it proceeds roughly south-southwest to 35th Avenue. Head north on 35th Avenue to Beverly Lane where, if you step to 33.6324, -112.133519, this is the westmost point.

Turn right and head east on Beverly Lane. At the first house, turn and walk southeasterly and then east along the block wall. At the eastern gore point of the block wall follow the wall as it turns northwest and puts you on Grandview Road. Follow Grandview Road on the edge of the grass as it curves north and becomes 33rd Drive. At the first house turn east and follow the block wall until Grandview Road. Walk along the edge of the grass along Grandview Road to the elbow, which at 33.63422, -112.125155, is the northmost point.

Turn right at the corner and head roughly southeast down 31st Avenue which will imperceptibly transform into Grandview Road. When you reach the first house on your right, hang right and walk south by west first alongside the property line and then along the block wall. Follow the block wall east to 29th Avenue. Cross 29th Avenue and turn right (south) at the fence and follow it a very short distance until you come to the break in the fence. Turn left (east) and follow the strip of green past the parking lot, across 28th Avenue, and all the way to the frontage road for I-17 (sometimes called Black Canyon Highway). Step onto the roadway when safe: at 33.632584, -112.116629, this is the eastmost point.

Turn around and trace back your steps to the break in the fence, cross 29th Avenue and continue along the bushes and the wall to Paradise Lane. Follow Paradise Lane west even as it curves south and becomes 31st Avenue. Turn right and head west by south on Marconi Avenue until 31st Drive. Step onto the roadway when safe: at 33.629861, -112.125778, this is the southmost point. Turn right and head north by west on 31st Drive to the starting point.
