Expand MapOverview: Trail goes through the newest lava flow in the park and provides views of most of the volcanic features: loose cinders, globs of molten rock, lava tubes and fields of different types of lava. There are numbered poles along the trail with descriptions provided in the brochure available at the trailhead or from NPS website.

    18 miles southwest of Arco, Idaho on Highway 20/26/93, 24 miles northeast of Carey, Idaho on Highway 20/26/93, 84 miles from Idaho Falls, and 90 miles from Twin Falls, Idaho. The park is only open from May thru October.
