Overview: Trail goes through the newest lava flow in the park and provides views of most of the volcanic features: loose cinders, globs of molten rock, lava tubes and fields of different types of lava. There are numbered poles along the trail with descriptions provided in the brochure available at the trailhead or from NPS website.
WARNING! Hiking and outdoor related sports can be dangerous. Be responsible and prepare for the trip. Study the area you are entering and plan accordingly. Dress for the current and unexpected weather changes. Take plenty of water. Never go alone. Make an itinerary with your plan(s), route(s), destination(s) and expected return time. Give your itinerary to trusted family and/or friends.

To hike 18 miles southwest of Arco, Idaho on Highway 20/26/93, 24 miles northeast of Carey, Idaho on Highway 20/26/93, 84 miles from Idaho Falls, and 90 miles from Twin Falls, Idaho. The park is only open from May thru October.
