Overview: A hybrid hike through volcanic and granitic rock formations. You begin in a wonderland of hole-filled volcanic formations with a steep drop through Banshee Canyon. After partially circling a volcanic butte, you head out cross-county toward mounded granitic rock formations with many abandoned mine shafts.

    To hike
Drive south on I-15 from Las Vegas, NV. The first exit after crossing into California will be for Nipton Road - get off and turn left on Nipton Road toward the Mojave National Preserve (signed). After approximately 4 miles, turn south (right) on Ivanpah Road. After another 3-4 miles, turn right onto Morningstar Mine Road. After approximately 19 miles, you will pass through the small "town" of Cima - there is no gas, but there is a small store for cold drinks (irregular hours, so don't count on it being open). Continue straight/slight left as the road turns into Kelso-Cimo Road. After 5 miles, turn east (left) on the signed Cedar Canyon Road. Shortly after crossing the railroad tracks, Cedar Canyon road turns into a well-graded gravel road. After 5 miles, turn south (right) onto the signed well-bladed Black Canyon Road. After about 9.5 miles, turn west (right) toward the signed Hole-in-the-Wall visitor center. Drive past the visitor center and take a left when the road branches. Park at the Rings trailhead.
