Overview: A great family outing to collect crystals, which resemble quartz, and other interesting rocks from a World War two era open pit mine. These crystals were sought for use in radios. There is no fee for collecting with a limit of one five gallon container per week. Bring your own tools-and pail.

    FR / Jeep Road - Car possible when dry

    To hike
    From Reno, Nv. head north on US 395, get off at Bordertown, and turn left going over the highway, then turn right. Follow Long Valley Road along some railroad tracks. You'll come to a fork in the road, but keep going straight. Long Valley Road, also called 002 Road, will take you to Lookout Campground. For a $6 fee you can camp overnight here.
