The area to the west of the campgrounds was badly burnt in 2002 and it had not recovered as of 2012. The area north of Old Hwy-260 was also badly burnt; the trailhead has been moved to its current position. This path passes stands of Ponderosa pines, pinyon & juniper woodlands, and several varieties of cactus.

The trail from the north trailhead is one mile long. The loop from the west trailhead is 4 miles long.
