Remote and primitive, first-come first-served single or group Vehicle/Tent Camping Campsite area located on the border of the Tonto National Forest and the Salt River Canyon Wilderness within a reasonable "off-trail" hiking distance of various remote sections of the scenic and seldom-visited areas of the Salt River.
WARNING! Hiking and outdoor related sports can be dangerous. Be responsible and prepare for the trip. Study the area you are entering and plan accordingly. Dress for the current and unexpected weather changes. Take plenty of water. Never go alone. Make an itinerary with your plan(s), route(s), destination(s) and expected return time. Give your itinerary to trusted family and/or friends.

To car camp trip From the Phoenix Area- Hwy 60 east to Globe,AZ. On the east side of GLobe at the intersection with Hwy 60/Hwy 70, turn north on Hwy 60 and continue for 16.3 miles to the intersection of Hwy 60/FR303-Haystack Butte Road. Turn left onto FR303 and continue to the intersection of FR303/FR645. Turn left onto FR645 and continue (passing through closed ranching gate #1) to the intersection of FR645/FR346. Turn left onto 4WD only FR346 and continue (passing through closed ranching gate #2) for a total of 3.6 miles to the FR346 end at "Camp Grasshopper". Please Note: the last two miles of sometimes narrow with exposure FR346 drops -1150 feet, thus 4WD vehicles are required in-order to EXIT UP & OUT OF FR346 lower road end.
