Expand MapThe Prospector Trail combines single-track and dirt road sections - the road was at one time used by prospectors in the area. Very nice views of the Pine Valley Mountains and Red Cliffs NCA throughout the ride, and mostly easy enough trail to enjoy looking around. There are a few short slickrock sections and the trail connects to many of the other trails in the area, making it a ride beginner and intermediate bikers can both enjoy. Along the trail, there are several sandy wash crossings, but most are quite short and a good chance to take some pictures or enjoy the views while you push your bike.


The trail is shared by bikers, hikers, and horseback riders, so be sure to keep a sharp look-out while riding.

    To mountain bike ride
    Take I-15 north from St. George, Utah, to Exit 22 for Leeds. At the end of the freeway off-ramp, turn right onto Old Highway 91 (now the frontage road). Travel south 2 miles and turn right following the sign for the Red Cliffs Recreation Area. Drive under the freeway and follow the paved road for less than 0.5 miles to the historic Adams House on the right. There is a small lot for day-use parking here. Ride approx 0.1 mile north to where the Prospector Trail crosses the road. From here, you can ride east or west on Prospector Trail.

    OR, take I-15 south from Cedar City, Utah, to Exit 23 (Leeds/Silver Reef). Turn left on Silver Reef Road, then turn right onto Main Street. Travel south for 3.5 miles on Main Street, which turns into Old Highway 91. Follow the remaining directions above.

    Note:
    Note the exit numbers carefully depending which direction you are traveling from. Both are one-way on/off exits!
    The tunnels under I-15 restrict vehicle size to less than 12 feet in height or width.
