Johnson Canyon Caves is a 3.5 mile one way hike with 380 feet accumulated elevation gain. Located 15 miles north-northeast of Kanab Utah. A high clearance 4x4 vehicle and a competent driver is recommended to access the trailhead. October and April are the best months to enjoy this hike.
A series of mysterious caves discovered and then enhanced, driven by legend very similar to stories that abound about the Superstition Mountains in Arizona. Alegedly Montezuma's treasure was buried here in an Indiana Jones fashion. Townspeople from Kanab, Utah combed this area in the early 1900's searching for treasure. They found secret chambers, multi levels but little of any value. The Geology is interesting as well as the caves. You can hike from the road or HC 4wd is necessary. It is very sandy access.
