Ponds, Meadows & Falls
by tibber

From the South Shore Trailhead at Two Medicine Lake hike through forest and by ponds and in meadows with views of the mountains off and on (in particular Sinopah (the Blackfeet word was Sinopaki meaning "Fox Woman" for the Indian wife of Hugh Monroe (Rising Wolf - another mountain at Two Medicine), and daughter of Lone Walker (another mountain at Two Medicine), a powerful Blackfeet chief) and Painted Tepee).
This is usually a ranger-guided option too but only on certain days. Note that falls and drowning are two of the top human causes of death at Glacier National Park. Extra care must be taken around running water.

  • 1/2 mile from the parking lot trail head and past the ticket house for the boat ride is the first in a series of small beaver ponds. At about a mile, cross Aster Creek; side trail to Aster Falls (well worth the visit). Back into the forest and another meadow.

  • around 2 1/3 miles is the suspension bridge over Paradise Creek (cross one at a time).

  • about 2.6 miles is the South Shore Trail and Two Medicine Pass Trail junction, turn left to reach Rockwell heading south.

  • You will cross through two old avalanche areas (Never Laughs Mountain (named after a female Indian according to the Ranger) will be on your left (east).

  • At about 3.5 miles you cross a footbridge, veer right toward the Falls (two separate).
Continue up the trail for about 5-10 minutes and at the end of the first switchback, you can get to the top of the Falls. OR you can continue on to Cobalt Lake.

You also can take the boat to the other TH (Two Medicine Pass Trail) and come up from the Lake.
