Rowdy's land of holes
by RowdyandMe

This is a nice little area between some housing tracks and an industrial area. The area is pretty flat throughout with a bunch of open holes were I'm guessing they mined quartz. The hike is nice and easy with a small ridgeline that overlooks a wide area of the desert with views. To the west of this ridgeline is a small hill with an open mine on its east side. There is little vegetation in the summer and lots of pieces of quartz and other things.

The trail is easy to follow if you upload to Route Scout. I mention this because there are many trails going all over the place. If you feel like hitting them all you might find some very interesting things out there.

You can connect with Scarlett Canyon from here as well and make a bigger loop out of it.

Well I got an MRI this morning and decided to hit Sportsmen Warehouse as it was close by. I got lucky to as they had a set of sock liners that was Rowdys size and then I hit In and out burger on my way out.
When got home I put some antibiotics on Rowdys paw wrapped it put on his sock and boot and off we went. He was so happy to hit the trail. I kept it short and it felt great to get my boy on a hike.

well with all the Monsoon weather we have be having here last night we finally got some much needed rain. Originally I had plan on taking Rowdy our for an evening hike close to home. But the monsoon just moved in quickly and it poured as we really needed it here.
So this morning I took rowdy out to check out the trails. It was really nice to see pools of water and to hear the Coyote's howling. We did see s few lizards and some birds out. The heat warmed up quickly and we headed home.

Well this was more of a test hike for Rowdy and his new shoes. I was surprised at how well it went. Rowdy never tried to get them off and wore them the whole time.
    The test was a success :y: :y: :y:

Well I did not plan on hiking today but Rowdy had different plans. Yesterday I did Shaw Butte while Rowdy was getting his hair and nails done. Today it was the vet for Rowdy and he got all his shots. I figure after getting his shots he would feel like going hiking but I was wrong. So I kept it short as it was getting hot quickly.
Tomorrow I'll make it up to him and take him on a longer hike.

Well I can only look at Rowdys sad brown for so long :( . Today I decide to take him out even a short one is better than none. It has been a week since he got to go on a hike.
The trail was nice and pretty flat which is what I wanted. And we did not see anyone on the trail of course we got started around the hottest part of the day. But it was great to be out on any trail again.

I wasn't planning on hiking at all this weekend. I have my grandson for the weekend for his seventh birthday. My son and daughter in law would like it if I never took any of my grand kids hiking.
My grandson wanted to gets some new shoes and when we got to the store he wanted hiking boots not shoes.

So I took him on a little hike with Rowdy. First we hit the old mine which he thought was cool. And as we head to the ridgeline we came across a Speckled Rattlesnake. This was the first Speckled I have ever seen in this area.
My grandson thought it was cool to see as he has never seen a rattlesnake before in the wild.
It was just a fun little hike and I hope we get to do more as he grows up.

I took Rowdy out for a little walk just to get him some exercise. There really wasn't much to see except for some bones that didn't look that old.

On the way back I did hear coyotes howling and it sounded like they were on both sides of us. I decided to put Rowdy on his leash just so we couldn't be separated.
I did not ever see them and maybe there were barking at the moon.

A much nicer and cooler hike than my first hike today. We had a really nice breeze at the start which was very welcome. Before to long I was surprised by a rattlesnake on the trail :scared: . I almost didn't see it as the sun was setting and we were hiking on the dark side of Rowdys Peak.
Once we got away from the peak the sunset was beautiful. But what really was the kicker as we were finishing was the bad moon rising, sweet. :y:

Well this is my last hike of the year. I set a goal of 1000 miles same as last year. Last year I did not make my goal due to a injury. This year I got my 1000 miles plus another 25% And that was due to the love of Rowdy.
Next year I am looking for another 1000 miles as I will be cutting back so I can spend more time training Rowdy.
I am stuck at work tonight but I want to wish everyone a Happy and safe New Year.

Well we got out a lot later than I plan, so I chose this hike, close to home. It also gave me a chance at trying out my new headlamp which'd worked great. I put my old headlamp on Rowdy and used the red light which worked great. I thought Rowdy might fight it but he didn't. I just want to be able to see him in the dark.
Tomorrow morning I will get him out for a hike before work.
