Expand MapNice secluded park located along the Colorado border a few miles northeast of Raton. Fishing, boating, wildlife watching, and hiking are featured. Two lakes, Alice and Maloya are along Chicorica Creek. The creek is fed by springs in Colorado and supplies water for Raton. There are two campgrounds. This is a historical coal mining area, and the Sugarite mining camp was located here in the early 1900's. At its peak it had a population of about 1,000. The mines shut down in the early 1940s. An interpretive trail goes through the former mine camp that is near the visitor center.
